Stop light and gear shift lock not working

your gear is stuck , there is a little magic cover in front its base with tiny hole for a tiny screw driver to uncap it , and then use a small screw driver to push the lock lever down ( do that as you have your car switch ignition key on ON position ) and then you be able to shift gear to Park , then close that magic cover on that tiny hole .
if that does not work ? check if your brake lights are bad, harness melted , brake switch , or brake fuse .
Corolla tend to have that shut down of shifter as a safety feature .
if that is not the problem ?
then you have a shift solenoid kicked the bucket and need new one

This is an old warning issue or procedure, I had the same problem a few years ago with my Ford Taurus 1995, if rear stop lights not work, you wont be able to moved the shift out of Parking (P); this is to avoid driving without rear stop lights. If no lights, normally a fuse is blow out or all bulb lights are gone, please check.
There is an alternate procedure to be able to drive your car, but, avoid driving without Stop lights. Turn the ignition key to the point before starting the engine, this release the lock for the driving wheel and transmission shift, press the brake, put the shift in Neutral (N) and start the engine. Im not sure if your Ford Edge has the no key starting button or fob, there is a procedure to release the locks and be able to drive, should be in your drivers manual, but, again; the intention is to avoid moving the car without Stop Lights. Check your fuses or the bulb may simply be blown and you will need to remove the faceplate and replace them easy fix.

ck if your brake lights are working, if not, ck the fuse. if fuse is good and brake lights work, could be problem with solenoid not unlocking the lever, there should be a bypass so you can get it into gear (small slot near shifer, put your key in there to release shifter)

wire from feed come adrift ..where ??? havent a clue but most likely on back of fuse board

Check your brake lights, if they are not working then the shift will not unlock.

it may be a brake light switch. on most vehicle the brake light switch releases the shift lock that may be your problem

Stuck in Park?
Check to see if the stop lights are working - shift interlock should be the same circuit Check stop light fuse
Try turning the key to 1st position (Unlock)
Shift to neutral to start vehicle and then shift to Drive
