Engine misses on take off from stop.

I have 150,000 on my 99 Chevy Metro. I just replaced the spark plugs and the coil for 1&4 cylinders. #4 is burning some oil and I get a puff of smoke when I start the engine. When the engine is cold, it runs fine. But when it warms up and I pull away from a stop, the engine runs rough. I have to feather the gas peddle or rev. the engine in neutral to get the r.p.m. up and put it in gear. It seems to be related to temp.

Check your fuel pressure, slightly low fuel pressure can cause this and it is possible that your other coil is breaking down under heat. also it could be as simple as your plug wires breaking down under heat

Were is spark plug number 1 at on my 3 cylinder geo metro

On GM inline engines, cylinder #1 is the one closest to the front(pulley)end of the engine. If you pulled the wires off the distributor/coil pack, and don't know where they go,put one wire one at a time and crank it.If it doesn't backfire, repeat until it starts.(this is only easy on 4 cylinder or smaller engines)

Do i nee a certain tool to get to the spark plugs in a 2001 chevy metro

There are no "special" tools required. Here is how you would do it:

NOTE: This engine is equipped with an aluminum cylinder head. Allow the engine to cool before removing spark plugs. Removing the spark plugs from an engine at operating temperature may damage the spark plug threads in the cylinder head. Also be sure to clean any dirt or debris from around spark plug holes prior to removing spark plugs.

I also recommend putting a small amount of anti-seize compound on the threads of the spark plugs when installing. Be careful not to under or over-tighten because cylinder head damage could result. If you have access to a torque wrench, the specification is 11 foot pounds.

  1. Disconnect the ignition coil electrical connectors.
  2. Carefully release the number 1 spark plug wire from the clip on the number 2-3 ignition coil.
  3. Remove the 2 bolts from each ignition coil.
  4. Remove the number 1 spark plug wire and the number 1-4 ignition coil from the spark plugs.
  5. Remove the number 2-3 ignition coil and the number 3 spark plug wire from the spark plugs.
  6. Remove the spark plugs from the cylinder head.
  7. Reverse proceedure to install.
