DOT Brake fluid is fine. Just go to any parts store and ask for it. The brake fluid reservoir will be under the hood, drivers side against the fire wall. Small clear container with black cap

SOURCE: what kind of power steering fluid should I use for

I know E46's use ATF (Automatic Transmission Fluids) for their power-steering systems. BMW Reccomends to use a common Dextron III / Mercon Automatic Transmission Fluid.

Soft top BMW is not going up or down light is flashing the trunk doesn't open without key

It sounds like there is a faulty sensor, as your trunk is not opening without the key I would suggest its your trunk/boot sensor.
As a safety feature the cars roof will not move if the trunk/boot is open.

Brake Fluid indicator light on. Does this automatically indicate a leakage?

No. As you use your brakes, the calipers need fluid. The reservoir holds the fluid. when it get to a certain point, a sensor will let you know you need fluid in there. If you see no drips on the ground, you might just need fluid.
