Alarm goes off when trying to start up,battery problems
SOURCE: when you try to start
I had the same problem last week ---- turn key to "on" position and then press and hold red button on dash for 3-9seconds and the alarm will stop. engine should now start.
EVERY Toyota dealer I called did not know what to do nor could they offer any ideas.
I figured it out after hours of playing with different paths.
This one actually worked..........

hello first thing get a good charged battery in it when you connect the second cable the alarm might go off lock the door with your key then unlock see if the alarm resets try also turn key to on position then shut off usaully there is a small silver toggle switch below the steering wheel mounted on the lower part of the dash looking up this is suppose to kill the alarm .goodluck please rate

the jetta has a faulty alarm system from the factory i have been working on one in my shop. the alarm moddule is inside the dash behind the light switch and has a 10 pin connector and a 6 pin connector. this can be bypassed if you disconnect both connectors and jump the two large wire on the 6 pin connectors, these wires operate your starter. the car will start and run but your alarm will no longer be active. the door locks and everthing else will still work. the only issue i am having is the factory radio isn't working because it is controlled by the alarm. but worse case scenario i can use an aftermarket radio if need be.
