Freelander rear drivers door will not open from inside or outside

The rear drivers door of our 2002 freelander seems to be deadlocked. We have had problems with the exterior handle sticking in the past but now both internal and external handles will not open the door! We've had the door panel off and mechanisms appear in place and as though it should be working ok but still cannot open the door. The door locks and unlocks ok (or appears to) but the door wont open.

SOURCE: Volvo s40 rear doors wont open inside or outside

There is a child safety switch on the rear latch assembly that prevents opening from the inside handle. This switch may be on. Check your owners manual for more info.

SOURCE: bmw door won't open

THE MECHANISM FOR ATTACHING THE HANDLE TO THE LOCK CAN BREAK WITHOUT WARNING. I HAD TO REPLACE MINE LAST SATURDAY. IT IS A DIY JOB IF YOU HAVE THE TOOLS AND ARE COMPETENT. THE WINDOW WINDER MECHANISM HAS TO BE REMOVED AS WELL AS THE GLASS AS MOST OF THE WORK IN REMOVING AND REFITTING THE HANDLE CAN ONLY BE DONE WITH THESE REMOVED. IT TOOK ME ABOUT THREE HOURS AS THE WINDER MECHANISM WAS RIVETED TO THE DOOR AND THESE HAVE TO BE DRILLED OUT TAKING CARE NOT TO HIT THE GLASS WITH THE DRILL BIT. ALSO, THERE IS A SLIDING CLIP WHICH MUST BE PUSHED ACROSS TO REMOVE THE OUTSIDE HANDLE TRIM BEFORE YOU CAN REMOVE THE HANDLE. I DID IT WITHOUT A SERVICE MANUAL, BUT I RECCOMEND YOU GET ONE BEFORE TRYING THIS YOURSELF AS IT PROVED TRICKY. IF YOU DECIDE TO TRY IT, MAKE SURE TO HAVE POP RIVETS AND A RIVETING GUN AS WELL AS FOUR 4.5 MM FLAT WASHERS ON HAND BEFORE YOU START AS YOU NEED THEM TO REFIT THE WINDOW WINDER MECHANISM. ALSO, TAKE CLEAR DIGITAL PHOTOS AS YOU GO SO YOU WILL KNOW WHERE THINGS CAME FROM AND WHAT THE ASSEMBLED ITEMS SHOULD LOOK LIKE AT EVERY STAGE. IT'S NOT ROCKET SCIENCE BUT DOES REQUIRE CARE. LASTLY, IF YOU GET SOMEONE TO DO IT FOR YOU, MAKE SURE THEY KNOW ABOUT THE SLIDING CLIP PREVIOUSLY MENTIONED BECAUSE IF THEY TRY TO PRISE THE TRIM OFF, THE PAINTWORK WILL BE DAMAGED AND THE TRIM WILL BREAK. OH YEAH, BE PREPARED FOR A LARGE LABOUR BILL RELITAVE TO THE APPARENT SIZE OF THE TASK AS IT WILL TAKE TIME NO MATTER WHO DOES IT. GOOD LUCK

SOURCE: Unable to open rear nearside door

Is your car door set up to override the lock mechanism if the door handle is pulled?

If it is not set to override, is your door still locked when you use the handle?

If the door is unlocked, is your door latch in the open position when you test the handle?

If open, close the door latch (not the door, just the latch) and pull the handle to see if this releases.

If it doesn't, check to see if all the rods connecting to the latch mechanism and the handles are all in working order

2002 TD4 Freelander Tail gate will not open - how do I remove the internal door trim with door closed from inside?

The door will not open if the window does not drop an inch.
Look for a broken/corroded wire on the rear door.

2009 Hyundai Elantra SE - Driver side rear door won't open from the inside or outside.

You will need to remove the inside door panel, what that takes I don't know, but it must come off to access the door latch, there you will likely find the latch release control rod has come off or the latch is defective.

2003 VW GOLF REAR door wont open

The rear door lock actuator has failed in the door locking unit this is a common problem you can manually unlock the door to replace the latch if you didn't have the deadlocking on if you cant try pressing the locking button twice so when the car is locked the flashing red light is not blinking ie off on the drivers. Doing this usually causes the faulty lock to release the dead locking so you can pull the inside handle to unlock the door.

How to open a deadlocked rear door.

Hi. remove the rear seat and door pad. You can access the lock through a small hole, break the top inner corner of the lock and it will release the dead lock and open the door.

Freelander 1 drivers door will not open with the fob will open with the key

Hi and welcome to FixYa!

Try spraying wd40 on the door lock mechanism inside the door shell. It may just be a little stuck and lubrication can help.

Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa!

I have a 02 Freelander TD4. One of the passenger doors will not open from the outside but opens from the inside, can anyone tell me what the problem could be.

the problem could either be the latch mechanism itself, or the ear for the rod coming from the lift handle has broken. remove the door panel with the window up and look inside with a flash light. make sure everything is moving. you will probably see that the handle is not moving the rod. simply, replace whats broken. if all the rods are in place and everything is moving then replace the latch mechanism. something has worn internally.

Passenger door wont open

It wont open from the inside? The outside? or both?. Inside the door panel there is a linkage responsible for opening the doors. If they are not connected then it wont open.
