2001 Cadillac Sts: engine will die while idoling and sometimes while im driving...it also bogs down when driving and the service engine light will appear and b4 i can get it checked the light goes off..what can cause this?

First item that I would check is the idle control valve. you can increase the idle speed of your engine if it runs below normal. Since you get a check engine light, I would suggest to get the error code.

I have a 2001 Seville STS and it used to do the same exact thing. I would be sitting at a red light and it would shut off. The I had to have the upper and low crank shaft replaced and it's been 100% shut off free. I had both the upper and lower replaced b/c it was hard to tell exactly which one and it was just easier to have both brand new. I later found some info that stated the crankshaft replacement is a common problem with this car model. Good luck..they are pretty and fun to drive but man they are testly at times..
