2001 jetta Power steering fluid leak

Cant seem to determine where the leak is coming from! All the lines are dry and the leak seems to be coming from the front section of the engine, not from the steering rack.

OK thanks! I dont think its the rack because the oil does not collect below the rack. It seems to be coming from the front section of the engine. This is frustrating!

The Hoses going to the pump has to be spotless. if there is a anything like grease or a little piece of grim on the sealing washers, That is what will leak on you. Hopefully this helps cause it happened to me. I had to put in fluid once a week.

A power steering system has a rack, fluid tank with hose to pump, pump, high pressure in hose and a low pressure return hose to tank. I f you say theres no leak at the rack that only leaves those other conponents. I would check the pump its self and the high pressure hose where it leaves the pump. It may also be leaking at the tank, where the hose leaves to the pump because it is only fastend down with clips and they can come loose or the hose can split. hope this helps

Hyundai 2001 sonata power steering fluid leak

The power steering fluid (which is the same color as the auto transmissioin fluid)...can come from 1 of 4 places, the power steering reservoir, power steering pump, power steering rack, or the connection lines........

Where it is coming from will depend whereabouts it is leaking, if it is more towards the front of the car (engine), power steering poump would be the likely option.......however if it is more under the driver/passenger area under the car, this would be more likely be the rack...

I would suggest washing the vehilce down with high pressure wash, inlcuding underbody and engine area......let dry, take for a drive (15-20 minutes), then leaving on reasonably clean driveway/roadway...and see where it is leaking from...what area...then get a torch and trace to where it maybe coming from

I turn right and I hear a squeaky grinding sound power steering fluid is full but when I look under vehicke I see that the box that the steering column seems to go into is all wet with somekind of fluid?...

First you need to verify where the noise is coming from. Squeaking and grinding is bad, like brakes, wheel bearings or ball joints. If you turn ther steering wheel while sitting still, that rules out brakes, or wheel brgs. The leak may be ps fluid, but check the hoses first, thats the most common thing to leak.

I have a 98 accord and it leaks power steering fluid but cant seem to find where it is coming from, Is there a common area this leak may be coming from, I have 147K miles,

No there is no common area for leaks. You will need to have an assistant in the car turning the wheel while you look for fluid. If you can't find the leak that way then you will need to clean all parts and find what part is leaking. The parts to check are the power steering pump, pressure line, return line and the steering gear. When checking the steering gear pay special attention to the bellows boots on the tie rod ends
