I purchased a 2003 nissan altima from an auction on 12/31/08. The body is in great condition and there are no problems so far but i purchased it at 91,345 miles. It now has 97, 434 miles. I only drive to work and church on the weekends. Since I've had the car I have gotten a tune up, transmission oil change and an oil change. I'm a female and do not know that much about cars. Is there any thing else I need to do. Also, when I purchased the car a friend told me that the miles was 61 but it wasnt until after I bid on the car that I noticed it was 91 miles. I wasnt happy but I had to purchase it because I already bid on it. How many more years can I get out of this car? One friend says I made a good buy and some others say it has too much mileage. By the way I paid $5,500. Does this year vehicle have any problems with the engine?
Yea just take good care of it. No aggressive driving, keep up with the tune-ups. Some tune-up parts are, air intake filter, spark plugs and cables, engine oil and filter, transmission oil and filter, fuel filter. These are the most common parts included in a tune-up. Then there are the belts and pulleys sensors etc., as they become defective. Of course the brakes, disk and rotors. Just do the regular or most common parts of a tune up as recommended or in a regular basis and your car will drive better and last longer. If your car drives fine, has no loss of fluids, excessive fuel consumption, rough idle etc. do not use any additives. Do not use any engine or injector cleaning chemicals. If it ain't broke don't fix it! Just worry about the regular tune-up parts this is my best advice to you.
The milage is above normal for the car, but this is a good car, cant say how long it will last and you did not give info on size of the motor.My only worry would be the timing belt, it should have been changed around 60,000 miles but you never know what the last person did for maint. You can also do a Carfax on it (there is a fee) to get previous service records/accidents ect. Change your oil every 3000 miles and pay attention to your guages/temp/engine lights and you should be ok ;-)
If you keep it serviced and drive with care, then you could get another 100,000 miles out of it. But don't take my word as gospel as engines are fickle and can just die for no reason. Nissans are very reliable by reputation so keep a regular service and it could last a long time.
