First, disconnect battery, than remove cables from starter (you may want to make mark so you don't get them mixed up when reinstalling,
Than Remove the two bolts holding starter.
Now you can pull out from top by exhaust manifold or if you have room to move through crossmember

You will have to remove the valve cover to align cam's, the lobs to cylinder number one should point out at 45 deg, and set crank at TDC.Hope this helps you.

What is the Firing order to find the #1 cylinder on Mazda Tribute

#1 cylinder is on the back of the motor first one to the ritght. On the driver's side. the cylinders go 1,2,3 fromright to left on the back of motor as stand facing the vehicle and 4,5,6 left to right in the front of the motor as you face the vehicle. Hope you understand what I'm telling you.
