Adjusting emergency brakes?

If you disconnect the wire(s) coming from the switch, does the light say on? If so, there may be a short to ground fro the switch to the lamp. You would need to replace or have the wire replaced.

Idle adjustment should be @600 to 700 RPM with the car in gear and emergency brake on if the car is an automatic trans. Adjust idle accordingly. If a standard the idle should be @ 650 RPM at idle.

if sears adjusted the brakes then the emergency brake handle can come on sometimes this has to be adjusted also ( always be careful when haveing anything power flushed as this can easely pop a seal and start leaking a few weeks down the line

check to see if broken if so replace also check rear brake life and try adjusting the cable tighter

If you or someone pulled hand brake, or pushed emergency brake pedal, and it occurred after, you can try rapping a few times on rear emergency cable going into backing plate, with screwdriver handle or similar, to get cable to retract enough to get it loosened off. Spray area where cable goes into sleeve with WD-40 or similar before. It may or may not work, depends on whether slack is there or not. Otherwise something has obviously gone wrong in there. Either way, you should pull that wheel apart & see what is causing it.

you can use 10mm socket to adjust cable while hand brake is off. it lives in hand brake handle area at rear of handle look with torch

sounds like the cables are sezed up.Nothink you can do but replace them. They might just need adjusting. Also if you have drums on the back the shoes might be worn right out causeing the hand brake to pull up to much. unless you can diagnose and repair the proplem you self best bet is to get a good garage to sort it.

you need a tool to turn the pistons back in the caliper that is parts of the emergency brake system,local parts house MIGHT have the tool. hope this helps if not get back to me and we'' go from there please rate my fix as i strive to be the best Thanks Ray
