There is one starter and as many cylinders as the engine was designed for. 2,3,4,5 ,6 or 8

The cylinders are in the engine block and the starter motor hooks on the back of the engine beside the clutch housing where it engages with some teeth on the flywheel.

You turn the key the electrics engage the starter the starter turns the flywheel and the cylinders go up and down .

Fuel is pumped into the cylinders the electrics on a petrol engine provide the sparks and if it all works the engine runs

The starter has no cylinders. it is an electric motor powered from the battery and ignition system.
The chevy cavalier has a 4 cylinder engine though.

I just did a code scan on my 1992 Chevy Cavalier RS 6-cylinder and the codes that came back were 32 and 33. What do they mean?

DTC - 32 EGR system failure
DTC - 33 MAP sensor circuit error (signal high indicating low vacuum)

The EGR failure is causing the DTC 33 code to show up. Check the vacuum lines to the EGR valve.

Good luck and keep me posted

Car will not start

Have you checked the spark? If it's the 4 cylinder Cavalier then your Coilpack is behind the motor and odds are it hasn't been replaced since it was manufactured. I had the same problem with that model.

1992 chevy cavalier serpintine belt how do i loosen it

To replace the belt push (rotate) the belt tensioner and remove the belt. Use a 15mm socket on the 4-cyl. engines and a 3 / 4 in. open end wrench on the V6 engines.
