Trans jumps when accelerating out of 1st gear. This makes the service engine light come on.

I have an 99 Astro Van and the service engine light has been on for quite sometime. It would only stay on for a bit before and go off. I took it to the shop and was told it was sensor in the trans causing it to go on. When accelerating and getting out of first gear it would jump but after that it runs fine. Well I had the shop reset it so I can get my emissions test. It did pass with no problem. Well it's that time of the year again. Does anyone know how to reset the light and what is making the trans jump after first gear?

I don't know what's causing the jump but, to reset the light you use an OBDII scan tool. Some parts stores like Autozone and Advance will read the codes for you for free. You could ask them to reset it after he reads them.

SOURCE: Bizarre shifting pattern 1984 Mercedes 300D automatic

Hello, The adjust of your t/v cable, not kickdown cable, and the operation of the vacuum controller at the rear of injection pump, and the modulator, is critical for this car to get a good shift.
Put you cable back on, adjust it so that when you have wide open throttle, the cable does not have any slack. Check the black vacuum line by the oil filter housing that goes to the modulator to see if it has vacuum. It should have about 10-15" vacuum and as you increase engine speed it should drop. If you get close to this, the trans should shift ok. If you cannot get vacuum at the modulator line, you need to ck vacuum supply, valve at rear of injection pump, hose routing, etc.
If the B2 piston failed, it would be difficult to move car or slip badly. Also, take into mind that at the bottom of your accelerator pedal stroke is a kickdown switch.
If you accomplish what I instructed, you will probably get a decent shift.
If you find this information to be correct would you please enter a "fixya" rating.
Thanks, Gator241

SOURCE: 1999 Chevy Astro Van. Don't know exact model # of

You should have a 4l60E in your astro van. Which is electrically controlled, so no vacuum modulator. However, to address the ventilation selector not working... look for a vacuum line exiting the firewall and going to the passenger rear of the intake manifold. You will likely find it broken or disconnected there.

I turn van on and go the van boggs down then the service engine light turns on and it smells like raw gas

Does it only bogg down on acceleration or all the time? If its only on acceleration you want to check for any loose vaccuum lines leading to the intake. In addition you want to check the fuel pressure at the fuel rail and make sure that the engine is getting fuel. If so check the injectors. A clogged fuel injector or one that is leaking can cause the bogging issue and the smell of raw gas.

I have a chevy 93 astro van my transmission won't shift out of 1st gear, and at the same time my heater doesn't turn on, and the speedometer stop working. all three things happend at the same time.

If the van is an all power, Have your alternator checked. DO NOT remove battery cable while running to check alternator. You definitely will need a new one then. they are sensitive to voltage changes, if voltage drops much will lock auto trans in 1st gear & various others things will stop working that draw much juice. Anything under 11.7 volts will trigger trans lock into gear on these vans. Autozone & O'Reillys checks them for free if you bring it to them.
