What engine?, they have options, there. cant fix unknown engines....
G16? J20, J25 engine? all are very diffr. motors.

hot soak failure.
probably not lost engine compression, HLA lifters. no gap
so is lost spark
you check for spark at all cylinders. if all are gone we scan the ECU.
if spark is good then its flooding, spark tips on all cyl, soaking wet
or just 1.????
all the above is $2 in special tools, just a fresh new spark plug
found in tool box..

if spark is dead.
we scan it. (all comments are for USA cars, never others)
we conn. the OBD2 tool ($9) and scan it
1: key on,
2: crank for 5 seconds and see scan tool show RPM from 250 to 300rpm. good. CKP is working bit.
3: we then release key , not off yet
4: i look at live and pending DTC,s oops, P0340/355 or ?
and you look up those DTCs and it says, bad CMP /CKP?
BINGO.

IF spark is good, then its just flooding
if yes, then ask how to do fuel tests.
fueling is last. all else must be right first.
(fuel pressure, then injector balance tests)
ask

G16v is not known to fail spark ever hot soak, starts. J20 well is.,,, ok do check for spark at fail. is this not easy?????? wait for the fail and quiclly check #1 cylinder spark, #1 is less back pain) got spark? did you do the 60,000 mile tune up and set lash to spec, on that engine, it has SOLIDs. and most not be ignored, or burn up the valves.... lost the 60k list? see next post its the 1998 but is same.

the EGR love to stick open, clean it ever 50k, the manual only mentions this in words in the text and is missing in the chart. (mine) it must not stick open , and if spark is good, and compresion, then the injectors leaks and flood 1 cylinder, spark soak on just it. so use super secret wide open throttle crankiing(in opr. guide that) and unflood that cylinder, start now? bingo flooding, bad injector or to high fuel pressure or , ECT reading -40F all time, or gee scan the ECU and see all those thiings, is hot restart at 180F (ECT reading with the scan tooL>) if not fix that.

SOURCE: 2000 Suzuki Vitara will not

Hi! My friend and I have experienced similar problem with each of our Suzuki Grand Vitara 2000 (his) and 2002 (mine). He discovered (two years ago) that cooling the "camshaft rotary sensor" by pouring (normal) water (which I also did just last week) and it works to start & run the car until the next pull-over. You have to redo pouring water if you stop the endine and does not re-start. But this may be just an emergency solution wherein you have to let the car be serviced by a mechanic.

SOURCE: clicking or ticking when engine is running

Sorry to state the obvious but the problem is directly connected to the speed of either: The engine; or your MPH. It could be something on a belt that is snagging, or most likely a piece of rubber that is being abused. If you know that neither of these suggestions are not the problem then I would think that it's the alternator. Start you car and pop the hood to see if you can locate the noise. The Alternator is easy to fix by yourself. I have a friend who is mechanically inept and even he was able to replace it. could also be the fan. try to narrow it down geographically with your ears and that should leave you with much smaller sum of variables.

Good Luck

There's two sending units in the intake. The little on with single prong at the t-stat housing is for the guage and the bigger one plastic connector is for ecm.

Your signal is getting grounded somewhere.

SOURCE: It's a1989 SUZUKI SIDEKICK 1.6 L,First start when

Buy a bottle of Techron Fuel injector cleaner. It's sold in many grocery stores and all auto parts stores. Pour the whole bottle into the gas tank when you can fill up. Drive the car and don't put more gas in until the car is almost empty. That should fix it

SOURCE: once vehicle is started cold it is shifted into

check your trans fluid level make sure that it is ok but you have to check it hot in park on level ground in order to get an accurate reading. if fluid level is ok you may have to get the tranny serviced the clutches inside the tranny could be slipping.

2004 Toyota Sienna, starts with one click when cold, but will not once hot.

redux 1: kick is click.
yes heat can cause any electrics to fail sure can.

the alternator, is what glows that battery lamp, (bat /gen/alt/charger)
or is dead alternator or intermittent or fails hot.
or a bad battery , or intermittent. and sure heat failing.
that is 3 possible things,
battery fails load tests
when running battery does not show 13. to 15vdc , so alt is bad or
fuses for alt are bad.
great post,. very rare this kind of failure. hot. I'm sure it will get worsE as they love to do. the fuse can not fail hot, unless rusty. or has ,micro cracks on it.
BEST IS CHECK ALL FUSES FIRST.

what happens on A dead starter ,? but all you get is one tiny click){no kick)\?
that CLICK is the starter relay working. (doing its job)<< a good sign and FACT.

the battery is dead, now, or rust/loose, battery cables or lugs.
what we do is ( I will assume Alternator is dead)_
charge the battery and or have it load tested for good/ bad.?
or use jumper cables to crank the dead starter, (not backwards jumped EVER)
now the stater motor can crank the engine now and it starts
but if the "battery light on the dashboard" glows engine running the that alternator is dead and with that thje battery goes dead again (repeats)

alternators can fail many ways, (on running engine and test to find it)
1: ALT is dead (or weak or inermittant or fails hot )
2; 3 ALT FUSES , 1 OF THEM BLOW OUT. 50AMP TO 100 AMP. YES. OR IT'S FUSIBLE LINK,
3: LOOSE FAN BELT TO IT OR MISSING.
4: learn that bad battery can make the alternator seem bad but the ALT is okay.

on newer cars the ALT is smarter and it goes off line if it (thinks?) the battery might explode.
shorted cell batteries
or battery dead open circuit (inside it)
the ALT does not want to go over voltage and to prevent that it may just go off line, to not damage car. electronics.

tests,
CHECK ALL FUSES
load test the battery, most shops or autostore's do this for free, (a test)
borrow and good battery from other good car
jumper cable start car, (as AAA AUTO CLUB tow trucks do endlessly)
HOT WIRE THE STARTER soleniod, TO PROVE STARTER IS GOOD/BAD (BATTERY KNOWN GOOD FIRST.

Suzuku SX4 starting problems - fuel pressure

intermittent are hard to find.
as they say" if it ain't broke, you can't fix it" applies
but in truth, we lay in traps to find this.
this is true with all machines, not just sx4
facts: (random no starts) but always cranks fast.
only fails cold engine. never hot. (does restarts hot work?)
seems yes.
seems you have full 12vdc power at all times.
seems the engine is ok. as it is not heat rlelated or the classic hot soak fails.
so what is it.
well, its 1 of these.
1: lost spark, simple tests, do so when failed.
2: bad fueling. (too much or too little)
the tests for each failure are dead simple and work on any engine.
ask.

Problem changing gears when hot. ok when cold!

It will be best to get someone to check the hydraulics of the clutch. That is a common issue.
Get a workshop to drain the gearbox oil and flush the system. A tell tale may come from the drained oil if the tranny is near end of life.

I have a w reg, diesil transit van and the engine seems to have started to cut out once it has warmed up, after about 4 or 5 miles,it was driving ok, then all of a sudden it lost power and a few mins later...

Find the cold start switch on the engine. This unit will put more fuel into the engine and set the idle a bit higher for cold starts till warm up then go beck to normal. It appears there is a malfunction in this switch. Replace it, or you can do what I did and put a toggle switch on the power in side of this switch so that you can shut it off after it's a bit warmed up and will stay running. That's all I can imagine would cause your problem on diesel engine.

Have a 99 jeep grand cherokee 4.7. it runs ok for 5mins when cold then once it warms up it seems like it is running out of gas, then shuts off and won't start until cool again. Also has small tap or knock...

this happened to me, it ended up being a bad coil mine had the independent coils (one for each spark plug) and it was causing a misfire which caused an audible ticking as well. i bought one and just kept moving it to the next until i found the one that needed to be changed its a electronic device and thats why it fails when it gets hot.

Runs fine for approx 15 mins, then stalls out and wont start again

sounds like coil problem, coils will start cold then get hot and stop. when coil cools will crank up and run till it gets hot, try to replace the ignition coil, dont think it would be a crank sensor, try a coil, thanks robert b.
