SOURCE: I need to know how to change a heater core in a 81
A good place to find such information is at WWW.AutoZone.com.
You can select your make and model of vehicle, go to the "how to" section and in many cases it will give you the instructions for replacing various parts and it is free.
AllData.com is another resource that you will pay less than $30 a year for your first vehicle, it is an on-line service manual web site, very good.
Below is the procedure for replacing your heater from the Auto Zone site.
Good luck, let me know.
Regards,
If it is necessary to remove the heater assembly, the cooling system must be drained before removing the heater core.
When a heater core leaks, a new heater core is installed or the old one repaired.
Heater Housing
The heater housing is disassembled to get to the heater core.
Heater Core
When the heater core leaks and must be repaired or replaced, it is a very difficult and time-consuming job primarily because of the core's location deep within the firewall of the car. For this reason always leak test a replacement heater core before installation.
