Computer rejecting cats.

My 96 ford crown vitoria wont pass E check, the computer is rejecting the cats. why?

    hey its bryguy0301, i have been up to E-check 5 times after puting new cats. on my car and there computer is sayin my computer in the car is rejecting the cats. i look in the manual and it said to drive the car for a specific amount of miles and i drive it for a lot more miles then it siad. But they are still telling me that the car is rejecting the cats. do u know is wrong?

    never heard of this, what do u mean it is rejecting to the cats? are they new? are u talking about the drive cycle test, u have soemething wrong here with your technical terms.

U have not completed the drive cycle, this means the system has not finished its internal self testing of the catalytic converters. A drive cycle is about 30-50 miles of mixed driving, stop and go slow medium and freeway speed driving with a more stops and idling.

You'll need a shop manual and a scanner or code reader. A scanner would be better.
You would need to know what the trouble codes are, get the diagnostic charts for the codes, and use the scanner to see the data stream from the sensors. The engine computer uses the O2 sensors to monitor the efficency of the cat and fuel mixture.

Try replacing the transmission filter and bands adjusted.This is usually included in a transmission service.Then also have the transmission flushed.This replaces all the fluid in the transmission.If this does not take care of the problem then you can repair the trans.or replace it.Hope this helps.Good luck.

Sounds like the multifunction switch. Try working the hazard switch up and down a few times to see if you get some lights to work. If so then replace the switch.

87 bronco wont pass emmisions
CRC makes the 'guaranteed to pass emissions' which you must follow directions-add to full gas tank, run for certain amount of time, etc.before testing. If you were close to passing emissions, it could help, I used it and my test #;s were close, and I passed, HOWEVER, since you are missing one cat, I don't think the guarantee is valid, nor do I think it would work. In my state they visually check for cats, and if you don't have one, FAIL. You can find generic cats on the internet for a good price, of course then you have the job of installing it. As far as the gas for free, water to gas, stay away, save your money, that scam has been around for a long time. Good luck!

I dont know if they had it in 96 but there is something called a speed control deactivation switch. Maybe check your owners manual about that.
