Replaced the Waterpump and Thermostat - car keeps overheating - water is not flowing through the block into the radiator - needs to be blead - how do I do this?
The problem is is that the car keeps overheating and needs to be blead through the block to the radiator. How do I do that?
here is the way i bleed the system of air, take a floor jack and raise the front of the car as high as possible, then fill the coolant recovery tank up and run the engine until it reaches just short of overheating, about 2/3 scale on the temp gauge, then shut it off and run a hose over the radiator, the air will self bleed and the coolant will be sucked in from the tank, works everytime. here is the way i bleed the system of air, take a floor jack and raise the front of the car as high as possible, then fill the coolant recovery tank up and run the engine until it reaches just short of overheating, about 2/3 scale on the temp gauge, then shut it off and run a hose over the radiator, the air will self bleed and the coolant will be sucked in from the tank, works everytime.

Hope this helps, do this VERY Careful, when over heating Turn ON the heater to full, does it cool down? does the water in the Radiator Boiling?. = water pump, (don't always make noise).
Not boiling?- Check and R&R Heat sending Unit Gage on the Radiator or somewhere on the engine maybe close to the Thermostat..
do a compression test on cooling system just because no oil and water mix doesnt mean head gasket good ---keep an eye on fluid level possible can be burning the coolant also check flow new doesnt mean free from defects or improper installation [thermostat-water pump]
the system needs a/blead air in the system.look at the top of engine and find a outlet at the top of the water system and with engine idleing open and let all air out then close keep doing until all air is out or water is flowing .adrian
The problem with overheat is due to poor coolant circulating. The main culprit is the Radiator. When the radiator is clogging up, coolant can't be circulating. The stagnant coolant inside the engine water jacket keeps absorb heat from combustion chambers having no way to dissipate the heat then the engine is overheated. You can test the water pump by removing the thermostat, then hooking everything back. Open the radiator cap, then turn on the engine to see if water flowing down to several small tubes inside the radiator. If water can't go down fast enough to cause over flow at radiator opening then your 90 Legend Radiator already got clogged up. Replace with a new radiator, not even a rebuilt one. Good luck.
Get your radiator cap checked and if replacing use the one for a overflow tank. If the cap pressure was okay then you want to look at water circulation in the radiator. After the thermostat opens you should see flow inside the radiator. If it does not circulate the block is clogged or the water pump is bad.
Finally, if you have an electric cooling fan there are relays and some have two fan speeds. Autozone may be able to diagnose your problem.
Test thermostat in a jug and pour boiling water on it , it should compress meaning it works. Check that the waterpunp is operating pushing water into the engine .Check that radiator water flows to the watrpump. Is tension of fanbelt of waterpump sufficient that it doenst slip. Lastly check that the radiator fan is working if has a electric fan. if this doesn’t help check if radiator or engine water passages isn’t blocked.
hi check your thermostat, waterpump, radiator and cap, hoses, fan if you can see a visible leak then i can talk you through a solution if its not leaking try flushing radiator, change the cap, make sure your fan is working, make sure your water pump is working u can test by removing the radiator cap with the engine running you should be able to see the coolant flowing not just sitting still if you need more assistance let me know
Thanks, I'll Try this and let you know how I make out.
