Turn signal When i turn on my blinker the front blinker works normal on both sides, however, the rear blinker blinks but the opposite side blinks both blinker and brake light, if you switch which side is indicating the opposing side blinks alternating brake and turn signal. I have changed the relay # 21 with no affect. Any ideas would be appreciated

This is a wiring problem. Do you have amber blinkers in the back? If not, the blinkers use the same filaments as the brakes.

Sounds like you may have the wrong bulb installed causing feedback to both circuits

SOURCE: signal lights, fuse box and signal light relay in 2001 Volkswagen

The bulbs on these cars can be delicate. Some get replaced every year or so-( headlights, tail and brake) and some I've never touched in 8 years (my front turn signals and marker lights)

The fast blinking occurance is normal when a turn signal bulb goes out.

The rear lights are common to blow, I keep spares in the glovebox.

Make sure you were given the correct bulb, check to see that it works and isn't defective. Also there is an empty spot in the rear bulb holder- make sure you didn't mistakenly pop a bulb in there cause' it won't work.

The front right signal light is in the right headlight housing. Open the hood and on the back of the housing there are two plastic caps. One is curved and one is rectangular- you want to take off the rectangular one.

Open the drivers door and on the side of the dash there's a cover. This is the main fuse block. Use a coin or carefully with a screwdriver pry it open. To check a fuse pull it out, noting exactly where it came from, and visually inspect it to see if it is blown.

Fuse # 2- turn signal system
Fuse #4- License plate lights
Fuse #7- back up lights
Fuse #13- brake lights
Fuse #22- parking and side marker lights, right
Fuse #23- parking and side marker lights, left

The turn signal flasher is integrated into the hazzard button in the center of the dash. If all else is good and you suspect the flasher is bad, which is a good possibility, call a VW dealer and have them run your VIN# to check for recalls. The hazzard switch for some cars around your year had a recall on em'.

There should two separate bulbs for marker and blinker. It sounds like a bulb is burnt out, bad ground, melted socket or a wiring anomaly. Are you certain it's supposed to have 57 series dual element bulbs for blinker and markers?

Not sure I follow your story.
The front and rear turn signal should blink on one side. If the tail lamps are not working, it could be a fuse or a problem with the wiring. And the tail lamps are on the same circuit as the front parking lamps.

You have some burned out filaments. On dual filament bulbs the "blinkers" I am taking it to mean the turn signals. They are one filament. The "Flashing Caution lights, work on a relay circuit, which sends a larger amp current into the opposite filament then the turn signal. Check front & rear bulbs.

You have a bad connection at the rear passenger side turn signal. It is either the connection is corroded or a wire is loose on the ground side of the circuit.

2004 Saturn Ion blinker problem!

Usually when the turnsignal blinks rapid this is a indicator that the turn signal bulbs is blown, you will need to check both the front and rear signal to see which is not working, and then change the blown bulb or bulbs.

My drivers side blinker works erratically, both bulbs are new sometimes neither side works i'm thinking flasher module?

Put the turn signal on the the right and count how many bulbs you see blinking counting front and rear,
Then put it on the left and see if the same amount are blinking,It sounds like one bulb is out or someone replaced a bulb with the wrong one, either of these cases will make it blink faster than normal.

Fast Blinker

Usually a fast turn signal means that there is a light out. You should probably check all of your lights, including back-up lights, and turn signals. If there is one out then replacing the burnt out bulb should fix the problem.
