SOURCE: How to pour Radiator stop leak into 1999 VW bug's

I recommend that you do not add this to your radiator unless it is absolutely needed. It will seal the leak, but also seal other passages, especially in the heater core. It will cause more damage in the long run. If the radiator is leaking, replace the radiator.

SOURCE: transmission fluid & radiator fluid

Antifreeze and transmission fluid don't run together any ware, but are both cooled by the transmission. There are coils inside the radiator that the transmission fluid runs through to be cooled. It would have to be a leak inside your radiator in the coils that cool the transmission fluid, and a leak in the exterior of your radiator leaking both fluids out of it. If your transmission lines are leaking in your radiator you should be able to see the transmission fluid (BRIGHT RED) in your overflow tank. Also the puddle under your car should be a red and green mixture kind of going everywhere. If they are to different leaks then you would be looking for a transmission leak and a coolant leak. Also check your oil and make sure that you don't see anything unusual looking about it. If you find that you have transmission fluid in your radiator I would contact whom ever replaced the lines for you, they should have been able to see this was the problem. Good luck hope this helps you narrow it down to the actual problem, if you have more questions reply to this post I will try to assist you further.

My husband removed the transmission cooling lines to replace them. After he did that all of the antifreeze poured out. Any idea why?

The trans fluid cooler inside the radiator is leaking. Check the tranny, it must be full of coolant.

Overheating and when the fluid is being refilled it is coming out the bottom of the vehicle.

Most likely your heater hoses or radiator / lower radiator hose has been worn through or otherwise unclamped from your engine. The fluid could be seen as coming out of the bottom even though the tear or break is at the back, side or top of the engine block.

Soak up the fluids up after the engine cools. Dry off everything in and around the engine with rags or whatever you can spare. Then as you slowly add fluid you may be able to pinpoint the exact spot where the fluid is leaking. That's your repair spot.

It is VERY unlikely your engine is actually broken. The worst case would be a rusted through freeze plug (these are located below the exhaust manifold to keep frozen fluid from breaking your block in extremely cold, say minus 50 degrees, temperatures). Those take a mechanic to replace. Parts are cheap. Labor should not be more than a few hundred dollars at most. Probably less.

Hi Ashley, I'm AL the owner of Big As Auto Repair in St Charles MO. I look forward to helping you with your problem.

Ashley, every once in a great while we technicians run across an engine where you can put the thermostat in backward, most engine's you can't install it backwards but some you can.

This is a good place to start. Check the thermostat and make sure the spring side is going into the engine block, this is the correct way to install it. If the spring side of the thermostat is pointing inside the thermostat housing then turn it over so it's pointing inside the engine block. If after checking this out and you need further help go to my website. Click here: Auto Repair

My trans fluid poured out

Determine where the fluid is coming from. Start with checking the transmission lines going to the front of the vehicle. There should be 2 that connect to a transmission cooler or to the radiator, typically on the passenger side. If one of these started leaking it may have sprayed transmission fluid onto your engine, causing the smoke.

Cadillac deville pouring transmission fluid

transmission lines to radiator is leaking. The radiator will help cool the transmission fluid in most vehicles, and these lines can get crimped or become loose during normal vehicle maintence. Replace the lines and connectors, and recheck transmission fluid level. MIght just be a loose connection you could possibly tighten up. Busted or cracked radiator?

If the radiator fluid spills out, then your test was not accurate. A radiator pressure test would certainly cause the fluid to leak during testing. If you had this tested at a garage, I would recommend returning there for a retest, as they didn't diagnose it correctly.

The other problems you mention can be caused by a few different things, but taking care of the problem you can clearly see should probably come first. If you have it checked at a garage that has not previously worked on your vehicle, be sure to tell them the recent work you have had done.

If you tested this yourself, ensure that the pressure tester is making a proper seal on the radiator cap nozzle and try to retest it. If it is pouring out as you say, the leak should be fairly easy to generally isolate, though if it is behind something, it may be difficult to completely pinpoint.

Does the radiator plug come right off of a 99 Caravan? Coolant is pouring out of my radiator

yes the plug will come out of the rad i`m assuming your talking about the drain plug.you could have a split in the rad tank causing the leak have it checked out or take a light a slowly and carefully inspect the area the coolant is running out.you may have to have someone pour water into the rad while you look to find the spot.

Take it back to them. Most likely they spilled washer fluid or oil on a part that gets hot. Then when you drove the spill evaporated. They may have checked your antifreeze and improperly tightened the Radiator cap causing a leak.

Observe the temperature gauge for overheating. Some Lube places do more service than oil changes. You need to pressure test the Radiator for leaks. They could have simply overfilled the fluid.
