I have a 2005 Chevrolet 2500HD pick-up with Duramax Diesel. The trailer connection is a typical 7 prong receptical. When I apply the brakes, the brake lights on the truck come on but the right rear trailer brake light does not come on. The problem is with the truck, not the trailer. Using a test lamp I find there is no electrical current for the right side trailer brake light at the recepticle where the trailer wiring harness plugges in. In fact, as I trace the towing wiring harness all the way forward and under the hood, I still have no power for the right side brake lamp. I removed the fuse box cover under the hood and actually lifted the fuse box out of it's holder/bracket exposing the mass of wires underneath. It was at this point that I decided to seek some additional help. I managed to fine one wire (dark blue) that lights the test lamp when the brakes are applied. This wire runs to what appears to be a relay. Is it possible that a relay can be the problem here? If so, which relay would it be and where is it located in relation to the others in the fuse box? I do not have a wiring schematic of the truck so I don't know what color of wire to look for that may be causing the problem nor to which of several relays that it may be running to. The wires coming from the firewall (and the brake peddle switch) to the fuse pannel are a different color than the ones leaving the fuses and relays. Thank you for your help.
Did yo check the fuse panel inside the truck its located on the drivers side dash , you have to open the driver side door, in there is a 10 amp fuse that is linked to rt trailer brakes and rt turn signal for the trailer, if the fuse is good there is a black box under the dash located on the floor on the driver side, just to the left of the break, thats where must of the plug in wire harness is for the trailer breaks!

it should be some where in the front of the truck on drivers side..down next to the frame..they move them so much but it will be in that area..hope this helps you and repost if no luck..have a great night

did you check the light module under the rear of the truck it controls all of the trl lights and tail lights these are a common failure item on chevy's
Doesn't the trailer connection run to the same wire that runs the brake lights on your truck? If you have brake lights on your truck, the truck isn't the problem. It's either your receptical, or the wiring to it, or the wiring or on your trailer.
Is this a factory plug in or an after market?
My guess is that the blue wire you found is for trailer brakes. Does / is your truck wired for a trailer with brakes? I would also check in both fuse panels as some vehicle use a separate fuse for right & 1 for left signals in some cases, as well as brake. Does that same one come on when brakes applied?
I have repaired this problem before there is a trailer control module on the back of the fuse pannel in the dash We traced there by test light on the 2 trailer fuses in the front of the pannel we were getting the same results there as the trailer was brake and turn on the left side and only turn on the right side remove the lower pannel of the driver side dash for easier access its a black box that just plugs in
