2001 Pontiac Grand Prix GT multifunction switch problem?

I have a problem with whatever controls the Driver Information Center display, the automatic headlights/daytime headlights and fan motor control. Sometimes when I turn the fan on, the DIC display goes out, the automatic headlights go out and the fan no longer works. Or sometimes they don't work at all when you start the car but may come on later while driving. From reading various blogs it appears the problem might be with the multifunction switch. Does that seem right? And if so, is it the same as the turn signal switch or attached to the ignition switch? Or is it something different? I am having the same problem. The blower motor will just stop and the headlights will go out. After a while the blower will sometimes come back on and the headlights will come back on at the same time. I can manually turn on the headlights and they will stay on but the auto. lights go out when the blower quits. Sometimes the blower will only come back on if it is set on high. When it coomes on if you turn it to a lower speed it goes back out along with the headlights.

The only common system that comes to mind would be your ignition cylinder. AT certain positions, power is applied differently. If you have a faulty ignition cylinder, then that may be cause causing the problems. Play around with your key at different settings, and turn your radio on while you do it. If your radio stays on even with the key off or out, then open your door and try it. if you find that the problems occur just playing with turning your key, than the ignition cylander is probably the culprit.

I had the exact same problem, I changed the "ignition switch" because the contacts inside were burned, this is why you see all those troubles coming in and out at different moments. It costed me 150$ to do it myself, buy the switch on an online reseller, must cheaper than the dealer! Now everything is back to normal on my Grand Prix GT 99 exept that my headlights don't light up automatically when starting the car... I have to check my fuse/relay and switch to make sure everything is ok on that side.

Good luck.

2007 Pontiac Grand Prix. Why does my auto door locks keep blowing a fuse when shifting out of park?

You need a good auto-electrician. Something in the shifter is causing that fuse to blow. It must have some shared power. Your doors work fine. Take the control apart and check for chafing, and check all the way down to the transmission.

I have a 2001 potiac grand prix with no tail lights the same bulb work turn signal an brake lights they r fine ive checked all fuses and replaced all bulbs even replaced the light switch still no tail

no, they are not the same. The multifunction switch is on the steering column and controls wipers, turn signals, and hi/low beam headlights. Dash switch is on the dash and generally turns lights on and off and frequently also controls brightness of dash lights. I had a Camry that had the same thing happening...ended up having a toggle switch put in to control the tail lights...fixed the issue.

2001 Pontiac Grand Prix GT multifunction switch problem?

The multi function switch is the turn signal switch. It also does control wipers and lighting. If you are having the issues you describe then you will most likely have a body control module problem. Before you spend the money to buy the module and get it programed get it checked first. Goot Luck

Climate controls are now in Celsius. HELP

On your DIC (driver information center) to the left you will see 3 buttons arranged vertically.
The ENG/MET button is used to switch between english and metric. Push that button until all displays are in english, that should return your climate control to fahrenheit.

Once you have completed that, push and hold the "reset" button down for 2 seconds ( button just below the ENG/MET button). That should reset you DIC to the default brightness as well as your other displays.

Give it a try and let me know.

2002 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP / Multi-function Switch

i have the sameproblem. Dealer part was quoted to me at $510.00. All after market parts stores were $350- 450. Try moving the emerg. flasher button while you step on the brakes and someone else watches the lights. I jammed paper beside the button and they work until I can fix it.I had to order the multi-function switch. and you have to pull the air bags to replace it.
