My 2003 Dodge Ram 1500 is making a roaring sound while driving down the road. I had the rear end serviced but it is still roaring! What eles could it be?

SOURCE: 2003 dodge ram 1500 4x4 rear end squeks when

What is the rear diff fliud like? Is it full? Have you inspected the brakes, and if so, what have you found. As far as the u-joints go, get under the vehicle and see if you have free play in the joint area. Grab hold of the drive shaft and turn it back and forth (engine off of course and parking brake applied), and see if there is excessive play. Is there evidence of rusty coloration around the caps of the u-joints? Hard to say what the exact cause is from a chat.

Check your u-joints first. If it is not the u-joint, then it is probably the yoke. Take the driveshaft off/out and on the yoke you will see a nut, make sure that it is tight. You will want to drain and refill your rear end gear oil as well.

2006 Dodge Ram 1500 5.7 4x4. What fuse runs the 4x4 please?

It isn't specified. There is more than one fuse that covers transmission. You would need an auto electrician or a transmission expert to connect a pro grade scan tool computer and diagnose if the switch or solenoid is faulty. A scan tool at this level is bi-directional and can command solenoids to operate and confirm that they do.

1998 Dodge Ram 1500 Rear End problems

Hello, well you can look at it in a few different ways. Like you stated you can get a rear end from a salvage yard and not know what you are getting, you can spend some big bucks to get a new rear end, or you can get it rebuilt. I feel getting it rebuilt will be the better option. If you get it rebuilt you will have new parts in the rear end and know what you have verses the cost of a new rear end. This of course depends on how much damage there is in the rearend. Economically I feel that having it rebuilt is the best option. I always get nervouse when putting in any used part because you don't know what you are getting. If you do get it rebuilt make sure they put in new bearings which any reputible shop should anyways.

Front End Problems

first i would check the tires , are they cupped or chopped on the tread? run your hand over the tread and see if it feels rough and uneven. take the truck to a auto repair shop and have them jack both front and rear axles off the ground, put the truck in 2 wheel drive and run the speedometer to the speed you usually hear the roaring noise, if you don't hear the noise , put the truck in 4 wheel drive, turn off the traction assist if it has one and run it to the speed you would hear the noise. if you hear the roaring noise with tires off the ground, the problem is in the drivetrain, (engine, transmission, transfer case, u-joints, differentials or the front left or right cv halfshafts or u-joints). the older models (97 98) had the front two driveshafts from the differential turning all the time, they engaged in 4 wheel drive from the transfer case and a solenoid on the front differential. depending on the miles you have on this truck, the most likely areas i would look at would be the tires, u-joints/cv joints, and front and rear wheel bearings. thanks and good luck.
