The overdrive button on your automatic transmission is for cruising on the highway basically like having another gear for better economy careful not to use it when your not on the highway because lugging the car in overdrive when its not needed will cause higher fuel consumption other than that you should have no problems just get out on the highway and push and away you go

Reverse suddenly quit 95 toyota camry 4cyl auto

Check your transmission fluid level asap. if the level is good, you will need to inspect the shift solenoids located inside the transmission pan. replace any solenoids that are proven to be faulty. i would also advise to test the pcm/tcm for its operational value as well. this device controls the shifting patterns of the auto trans.

while checking the solenoids, if you notice any metal fragments on the bottom of the pan, this will be a sign of major gear friction. you should re build in this case.

Hi Mike
Try lightly tapping the starter with a spanner and at the same time turning the key to start, if it starts you need the starter overhauled.

Location of auto trans dip stick on 91 Ford Tempo 4 cyl.

It's right next to the air filter and behind the radiator fan and to the right of the oil dipstick. The transmissions is black and the oils is yellow. If it's a manual, there's no dipstick there. If not check close to the forewall towards the back of the engine.
