If all other gears work and no reverse the Low/reverse band is broken. The way to tell is to drive in reg. drive to about 15 mph then pull the shifter into manual low. If you don't feel it pull back like it normally would, its the band.You can also pull the pan and see if the rear servo apply lever is hanging down. The tranny will have to be pulled and torn down as the rear band goes in the case first.

i hate to tell you but your tran is no goog. you will needto replace it. sorry to tell you this

Remove the bottom pan and check the rear band. It might be so loose the apply strut fell out and is laying in the bottom of the pan.
