No reverse 1987 dodge 100 4x4 318 automatic does not go in reverse at all all the other gears work it doesnt sound like its engaging at all

If all other gears work and no reverse the Low/reverse band is broken. The way to tell is to drive in reg. drive to about 15 mph then pull the shifter into manual low. If you don't feel it pull back like it normally would, its the band.You can also pull the pan and see if the rear servo apply lever is hanging down. The tranny will have to be pulled and torn down as the rear band goes in the case first.

Remove the bottom pan and check the rear band. It might be so loose the apply strut fell out and is laying in the bottom of the pan.

if linkages are good
check fuse first
the scan the PCM for sure scan in reverse
if no DTC errors we check automatic trans pump test port
in all gears PRNDL, for correct PSI on all, (a shop tool gauge)
or have shop do that. before it gets worse as most do.

manual: check on the properler shaft if its working while gear is engaged then selectors of a gear lever must be in correct possition
