Mitsubishi Montero Sport 2002 Idle problem

I cleaned battery post. I started having idle stall. When air conditioner is on, it idles okay. But when I turn off air conditoner the idle drops and engine stalls. I removed air filter, but same problem. Coincidence on battery and idle problem? What could cause the idle to be okay with air conditioner on?

The engine compensates for the load try turning up the idle screw also check the ignition system you might just need new wires and or cap rotor or your coil is bad also plugs

Disconnect your battery for 10 minutes and reconnect. With AC off start engine and keep, it at 1000 RPM's for 5 minutes. Your computer will load the setting in memory. After 5 minutes slowly easy up on the peddle and the car will remain idling at 1000 RPM and will no longer stall.

SOURCE: Mitsu Montero Sport '02 engine stalls but not when air cond is on.

hi there. the reason that the engine idles good when the air-con is engaged is that ussually all vehicles nowadays have a vacumm advance mechanism. this is triggered mainly by a electric solenoid valve which is also attached parallel to the source supplying power to compressor. a small vacumm hose with a diameter like a common pencil or ballpen case. its made of rubber and it runs from the alternator vacumm pump then to the solenoid valve and to the vacumm advancer unit attached to the injection pump throttle. this system raises the idle a tad higher.

if your montero runs completely normal and you experience no other problems with your engine except for your present problem, then the solution is just raising the idle a little higher. if your montero is equiped with a RPM guage on the dash, try adjusting the idle to around 800 rpms. it would be healthier for your car if the idle raises a bit when you engage the air-con because this would compensate for the added load on your engine.

hope this helps.

Mitsubishi montero Sport 2003 ,erased p0136 code and now vehicle stalls when put in gear so what could be the problem

If you disconnected the battery you have lost what we call "learned Idle", read below on problem and solution.

Here are the most common causes of idle surge, stalls at stops, slow idle speed, erratic idle speed, rough idle and engine hesitation (and other problems), it is in most cases the idle speed control air-bypass valve and or throttle valve and upper intake, these area's get full of gunk and combustion residue over the miles and cause idle issues (stalls, low idle) like yours, Get a can of intake cleaner from any local parts store, not carb spray, intake cleaner, it is made by a company called CRC, remove the air intake hose to the engine, hold the idle high so the engine won't stall, then spray the can of cleaner into the intake while keeping the engine running, use at least 1/2 the can, shut down the engine and disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then restart and complete a number of mixed driving cycles, town, freeway, stop and go etc., after a few days the problem will go away as the system will relearn to the clean intake

Where do I find the air filter on my 1999 Montero Sport?

It's probably not your air filter, but that is located at the end of the big hose on the right side under the hood, it looks like a big box. It sounds like it might be the idling sensor.

I found my engine Mitsubishi pajero fieldmaster Model 2002 with rough idle when I started this morning. It took sometime before running well

unsure if this is petrol or diesel model. check basics first, air filter not clogged, sparkplugs not sooted and gaps burnt wide. if it is a GDI V6 model, thay have common fault with dirty throttle body(TB) and air mass unit, causes rough idle and gets worse over weeks until it doesnt improve.this can be easily fixed by cleaning with solvents available for air flow sensors and tb's. if engine has plastic cover, remove this to access TB

I have a 2000 mitsubishi montero sport after I installed a different radio it started shifting hard and dieing while driving it

You probably disconnected the battery and your idle adaptive memory was erased. You need to clean your throttle body. Look here for the solution. First post.
