A 93 V6 is almost certain to be an auto, is it? So it has clutches, but they are auto and inside the transmission not a dry plate.

Instead I think that either the shift solenoid has failed, which is common in Camrys that age, or the shift sensor/neutral switch has gone out of adjustment.

These are not expensive repairs but the car has to go up on a hoist. If the transmission pan is taken off have the auto trans filter renewed as well.

SOURCE: 1993 totoya camry v6- Changing the rotors

LOL!! Ya they are a pain in the a$$ if it's the year car I am thinking of. Are there 3 "threaded screw holes" near the wheel stud holes? If there is you need a special tool called a slide hammer to get the rotors off. You can get one of these on loan from Autozone for example. And may the force be with you.

If there is not, then you should jump up and down and be glad. Get some rust penetrant and a big hammer, like a 2 or 3 pound hammer. Put all lug nuts on all of the wheel studs (not tight just on a few turns with your fingers) to protect the threads when you are wacking at the rotor with the hammer. This will also keep the rotor from falling on you (they are pretty heavy). Spray the rust pentrant through the wheel stud holes and around the middle where the rotor meets the wheel hub and let it soak for about 5 minutes. Now firmly start wacking the rotor being careful not to hit the actual flat surface of the rotor but the very edge as well as the middle near the wheel studs.

A little cursing at it will improve your chances while you are hitting it. Been there, done that, got the T-Shirt!!

Good Luck!!

SOURCE: 1993 Toyota Camry V6 Timing Settings

Get a T belt from toyota. It has 3 white lines on it and and arrow mark. 2 lines are solid and one is broken. Put the arrow facing away from the engine. The cam gears have a dot punched into them near a certain tooth. This is where the solid white lines will line up with. The crank gear will have a dot also. It will line up at 90 degrees from the top, towards the front of the car. This is where the broken line will match up with. With the belt installed with all lines on their proper dots and arrow away from the engine, you valve timming is correct.
Of course you need to remove and compress the tensioner also. I assume you know this already since you didn't ask.

SOURCE: Transmission issue - almost no reverse & clacking

I had the same problem with my 1991 sv21 camry, it sounds like the reverse clutch is on its way. if you try to engine brake the car in 2nd or low gear does it hold, or slip?, if it slips then the box needs to come out and the cluch replaced, or is the fluid low? i had spent around $1500 Australian Dollars to fix the issue but with the 5sfe enging im aware that the whole engine and box assem, has to come out as well.

SOURCE: Transmission oil for toyota camry 1993

1993 Camrys take regular Dexron ATF. It should be changed every 30,000 miles. If you have never changed it, and it is over 100,000 miles, I would strongly suggest a professional "transmission-flush", with a designed specifically for flushing transmissions. To just drain the fluid at this point will leave roughly 3 quarts of dirty ATF in the system; a complete flush will eliminate ny dirty ATF traces.

SOURCE: replace alternator belt only for 1993 toyota camry

loosen the mounting bolts on the alternator, remove the old belt, replace with the new belt, slightly tighten the top mounting bolt, pull the alternator up until the belt is tight or if there is an adjustment bolt, crank down until tight (shouldn't bow more than 1"), and tigten other hardware.

Car won't go in reverse

If the vehcile is V6,then the trans model is the A540E,and if it is the 4 cylinder engine, the trans model is an A140E.Both are 4 speed overdrive transmissions, and sorry to report that on just abot every automatic trans on the road, reverse gear failure is almost always a mechanical problem inside the transmission because there are no shift solenoids involved with reverse as with forward gears. And you did say the forward gears were fine.Good luck.
