How long do you leave the jumper on the battery backwards?

Sorry but my feeling is you need a mechanic to check this out. I jump started a car and touched the wrong side of the battery. We blew out a part which had to be replaced. Cost $180.00 to fix my car.

I am assuming you bave chechked the battery. Jump the positive terminal on solenoid with terminal going into starter from the solenoid. If the starter spins replace solenoid. If it doesn't check starter itself starting with the brushes.

More then likely your vehicle has a parasitic drain on the battery . A control module may not be powering down or something is on in the vehicle. Testing the electrical system like in this video is the way to find out .

Wrong battery? What was wrong, voltage, size, terminal location. I am not familar with a Lexus does it have two batteries? If you hooked up two batteries and did something wrong, like hook them in series some way then you could have fried the computer. It is really hard to determine what problem you have. The bad fuses should tell you something what did they run? Please rate my answer.

locate fuse box under hood
remove cover
look for blown fuse, if NOT screwed in just pull straight up to remove, reverse to install new one
if screwed in just remove screws (righty tighty / lefty losy) reverse to install new fuse

Inspect the wiring. Make sure that the terminals are cleaned including the ground. Try to jump start it by connecting it to the battery of another car. If it runs, check your battery and your alternator as well if it is charging the battery correctly. If it does not, inspect the starter relay.

Have you checked the battery? Try getting a jump start from someone that will tell you if it's something other than the battery. That's the first place to start. If it still doesn't turn over after that then check the wires. If theres any corosion on the battery terminals that will inhibit spark.

Hi Thomas, sounds as if the starter motor is 'dragging' Basically that means either the bushes or brushes are worn or something else in the starter motor is causing the drag. I think the problem is in the unit giving the problem. Regards Johngee
