2000 Pontiac Grand Am has power wont start.

Possibly a security feature?, car started fine. I got out to get something out of my house with the car still running. I then reilized i needed my keys to get in the house so my girlfriend shut off the car and passed the keys through the window. I get back in and all the interior power works fine but the car wont turn over ....or even sputter. sounds like the starter is engaging but nothing happens

Check that the flywheel is not missing any teeth. Also check the geartip at the starter where it kicks into the flywheel for wear at the tip.

Its likely that you have either a bad ignition switch or a bad neutral safety switch (if stickshift, clutch switch) Try starting in neutral...if it starts, change neutral switch (jump across clutch switch, check starting in neutral with your foot on the brake) Ignition switch is on top of steering column under dash.

first remove the battery and take it to a auto parts place and have them check it. move on from there. if the battery is good the do a starter draw test. take a meter and hook it to your battery. now have someone try and start the car. if the voltage on the battery drops from 12.8 to below 9 volts then the starter is bad. if the voltage doesnt drop much at all then its prolly the solenoid both of which require starter replacement since most solenoids are on starters. if still nothing then check ignition switch. but before anything else ensure vehicle is in park. if it is in part use a meter to test neutral safety switch.

Sounds like a bad starter solenoid, usually cheapest and easiest to replace the starter and solenoid as a unit. It is always best to check for power between the solenoid and the starter with a test light, if the solenoid clicks but the test light doesn't light up you have found the problem in the solenoid.

What to do after security light comes on on a 2005 pontiac grand am se i know i can wait 10 or 15 mins to start but i wired toggle switch to yellow thin wire behind the ignition switch and attempted to...

My wild guess would be that if your key is chipped, then you may have to re-marry it to the ECU, if that takes place in the actual design of this car. To completely remove security feature you may have to re-flash engine control module (ECU) I am not quite sure of design of this particular car, you may have to check with experts...

Wont start

Replace the fuse. If this doesn't fix the problem you may of done something to the ecu, you can unplug it for 5 minutes and plug back in to see if it works.

If this doesn't work consult a vehicle electrician for a further diagnostic

Car cranks fine, was running great, cold morning wont start, sprayed start fluid motor runs until either gone. fuel filter?

this could be a few things fuel pump getting weak or your alarm could of activated itself and it disables the fuel to the engine, I would try reseting the built in alarm system. first put the key in the ignition and turn on till all the lights come on and let it sit 10 minutes with the key on, then after the 10 minutes is over turn the key to the off position and wait 3 seconds and then try to start. if it starts which is possible because grand ams and olds aleros are bad for the security system locking up by them self. Hope this helps.

2000 grand am overheats when the car is idle when

If you have A/C, turn it on. The fan(s) should come on immediately. If nothing happens, check that the fan(s) turn freely by hand and don't make any noise (from a bad bearing). Also check the fan relay and fuse. If the computer has a problem, it should show that it has one when a scanner is hooked up to it. The temperature sensor sends a signal to the computer and the computer tells the relay to turn on the fan(s).

My 2001 pontiac grand am does not want to start.

check and make sure your security light isn't on.  The security feature malfunctions on these models often.  If the security light is on, turn everything in the car off (radio, a.c. etc.) turn the key off, turn it back on to acc tap it into start until if just starts to turn over then leave it in the relaxed start position.  Allow the car to just sit like this for up to 20 minutes.  The security light will go off and you will then be able to turn the key off and then start the vehicle.
