Battery appeared to be weak. Replaced alternator. Truck had to be jumped off. Drove 10 miles then head lights went out. Then dash gauges went out except for a blinking ABS light and over drive light. This morning cab lights work but when key is turned the gauges do not work abs light flickers and makes clicking noise.
Without testing the electronic's , hooking up a professional type scan tool an checking for DTC'S - diagnostic trouble code's etc ... we'd only be guessing . Probably the instrument cluster, but that is just a guess . Are you aware that the instrument cluster has a microprocessor an logic . Serial data communication network the modules share info. on ? Your vehicle has 10 or more modules (computers ) . What's the voltage at the battery terminals with the vehicle running ? Viewing wiring diagrams for electrical distribution an testing with a DMM - digital multi-meter would be a next step in the diagnostic procedure ,if no code's !
Electric Testing Techniques You Need to Know
Free wiring diagrams here http://www.bbbind.com/free_tsb.html Enter vehicle info. year , make , model an engine size . Under system click on body & accessories ,then under subsystem click on instrumentation . Click the search button then the blue link. Pull the instrument cluster ,with it still connected to the vehicle , check power an ground circuit's .
SOURCE: abs light on
I'm a Ford service adviser. There are many reasons for the
abs warning indicator to come on. The usual cause is from a
faulty speed sensor. Either a wheel speed sensor or the
differential speed sensor. I don't think the light is related to your
vandalism. You might want to take the truck to an auto parts store and
have them read the codes for you. Most auto parts stores will do this
for free.
Good Luck

Actually the Speedo is controlled by the PCM I would pull the NEGATIVE battery cable for 30 minutes and then hook it back up. this will reset the PCM.

Check and see if your alternator is charging
Low voltage will cause those lights to come on, as the computer is shutting down.
To check your alternator you will need a volt meter... WITH the engine running you should have about 14 volts coming out. IF NOT you need to replace the Alternator!

You said you tightened the battery cables, did you check the other end of the negative where it bolts to the engine. When you tightened the cables you also used a battery brush and cleaned the posts and ends?
