2002 jeep wrangler 4.0 liter oil pressure drops after warmed up . When driving /accelerating pressure stays at 40 which is good ,when i arrive at a light or stop sign pressure drops to 0. I have already replaced sending unit ,changed oil and filter still have the problem. Please help what could be the problem thank you

i will try the mechanical gauge and let you know how it worked out

    Hmmm...

If the oil pressure is actually at 0.1 as the gauge reads, I don't see how the engine could avoid locking up -- pressure below 10 psi is in the danger zone.

Therefore, I would have to conclude that the reading is incorrect.

One way to verify this is to install an analog pressure gauge in the sending unit port.

This would give you an accurate reading. I know this sounds complex, but this is what a garage would do.

If the pressure reads "normal" on this gauge, then it seems the only conclusion would be the gauge on the dashboard is faulty -- there could be several reasons for this which could be explored after the actual pressure is assessed.

Summary: My suggestion would be to next install a gauge and get an accurate reading on oil pressure.

When the gauge is at 0, is there any noise from the engine (tick, knock etc?) I would have someone put a mechanical gauge on there and read true pressure.Your driving pressure seems OK but if the low number is "real" something is wrong!

95 jeep wrangler. 4 cyl engine. Oil gauge normal with engine idle but reads high if accelerate goes all the way up

Do you have under drive pulleys? If so, you can expect that to happen. It does not mean that something is wrong. You may have a high volume oil pump too. I have under drive pulleys on my Camaro and the oil pressure and voltage readings go up. I have never had a problem with that. I would worry when the oil pressure gauge does not move at all $$$$$$.

2002 jeep wrangler diagnotic light is on oil pressure gauge workig funny when warm,do i replace oil assending unit?

Before replacing anything get an OBII scan done (fault scan) Any good parts store IE: Autozone, Advance, etc can do it for you FREE get list of faults/messages and go from there before throwing parts at it.

I have an 02 wrangler and the oil preasure goes down when Idling is that an oil pump going bad?

First we would need to know when this occurs. Asuming the oil level is at the full mark!. If the pressure goes up during acceleration and down at idle when engine is fully warmed up, then this is normal. An engine requires 10 psi of oil pressure per 1,000 rpm ( ex. 20 psi at 2,000 rpm, 25 psi at 2,500 rpm, and so on ) . If the gauge is moving back and forth erratically at idle , i would say the gauge is bad. If it drops to 0 while accelerating I would say your oil pump is bad. If from time to time it seems to work and other times it seems not to work, I would say the oil pressure sending unit for the gauge is bad. If the pump failed you would start to here a Knocking noise from the engine in a short period of time. Use the above scenario's to narrow down what it may be.

2002 2.5l no oil pressure on gauge. Runs fine...no

You better put a manual gauge on your engine and make sure you have oil pressure. Could just be a faulty gauge or sending unit but I sure as heck would be checking it with a manual gauge.

95 jeep wrangler: gauge indicates 0 oil pressure

Wire on oil sending unit may have fallen off or sensor itself may have gone bad. Check both. If engine has no tapping noises, likely it's not a pressure problem.

Oil gauge goes up and down.

If grounding the dash does not work, try putting a mechanical gauge on it and reading actual oil pressure. Pressure does change while driving, but should not wander. With mechanical gauge, check that running hot at idle (in gear if automatic) pressure should not drop lower than 15psi (I'd rather see 20) High reading should be around 40 -50 but no higher.Low pressure indicates a loss of supply or bad bearing on the crankshaft, high pressure may be caused by sticking pressure relief or restriction in an oil passage.
