You can go to most automotive supply stores, and purchase manuals for your vehicle that contain step by step proceedure's to repairing almost everything on your car, these manuals usually also detail the electrical wiring in diagrams in the back of the manuals.

You can find these manuals at most automotive stores such as Autozone, Petboys and such. They usually rin from $8 - $20+ depending on how detailed the manuals are.

Next click on wiring diagrams an the enter your vehicle info. Then under system click on power distribution , subsystem fuse panel . This will show what you need .

I have replaced my fuel pump and fuel pump relay and the car(1988 Lincoln Town Car) ran fine for two months. Now it will not start. The fuel pump relay has 4.6 volts when the ignition is on, it is not...
Have to look at a wiring diagram to figure that out

At least I would.

Does the relay energize in your hand,
with batt & grd on coil & ohm meter on
it's contacts, to see if their burnt?

e.g. do you need 12 + volt for it to work

Your looking for a voltage drop ---maybe

Don't rule out the ignition switch it gets a lot of use

With a '79 I would go to www.alldatadiy.com. I know you probably want a free link but they will give you access to every nut and bolt on that car, including wiring diagrams, colors, connector locations everything. When you are working on an older car like that the info at your fingertips is worth its weight in gold.

1988 lincoln car will mot start battery is fine
Check your starter relay, it is mounted to the fenderwell near the battery. On the relay there is a terminal labeled "S" take that wire loose and check for power when the key is turned to start, if there is power you need a relay, if there is none you have and ignition switch or safety neutral switch problem.

6 or 8 cylinder ? Do you know how to test for B+ voltage with a test light or a volt meter ? Look at a wiring diagram so you know which wires should have B+ voltage . You can find free wiring diagrams here http://www.bbbind.com/free_tsb.html Enter vehicle info. year , make , model an engine . Under system click on engine ,then under subsystem click on ignition . Click the search button then the blue link . Looking at a wiring diagram i see this vehicle should have (COP) coil on plug ignition . That means it has a coil for every cylinder an not coil pack .
