Removed lugnuts but a tire will not come off the vehicle . The parking break is off, but the rear wheel will not spin. I turned the ignition on and the parking break light was not on. I lifted the parking break and the parking break light on the display went on. I put the break back down and the break light display went back off. The tire still will not come off and the wheel will not spin. I also kicked the tire and that did not work. Any ideas why it will not come off or spin?

Rear wheels on saturn's I believe have drum brakes - these can tend to seize up when worn through and the brake shoe rivets start to cut into the wheel housing or if not worn out, just be tight enough to keep wheel from spinning freely. Also the light on parking brake is a simple switch attached to the lever and is not reliable. I've had parking brake cables rust up and seize which can be a pain - generally requires a replacement cable and often the connecting yoke and rods.

As for the wheel not coming off - that's unrelated to the brakes - the brakes act on the actual wheel hub to which the lugs attach the wheel and tire. Many times it is problem of rust and dirt caked up between the wheel and the hub. I'd suggest rapping the wheel with a hammer, go all around the perimeter several times on the back side - use a piece of wood between hammer and wheel to protect the wheel from getting dented - the hammer "shocks" usually will vibrate thru the steel or alloy to loosen caked up dirt and rust. Can't think of much more you can do - maybe others have a suggestion. worst case might be to bring it to a tire shop and pay them $10-$20 to get it off - if it is just for inspection they can put it right back on for you. If you are looking to swap it out with another tire/wheel, then they will charge more since they often ding you for balancing it (which is a good idea regardless).

SOURCE: I have a saturn Vue

Based on your description: 150K+left rear slowed down much quicker than the right +/ and the humming noise, there is a great possibility that the Wheel Bearings will have to be replaced.

Your rear wheels are not spinning because they are the drive wheels (they're connected to the transmission). If your car is in park, or any gear you will not be able to spin them unless you're the Hulk.

Your rear wheels are not coming off (probably) because there is corrosion between the wheel and the hub. The easiest way to break it loose is to put the lugnuts back in about 3/4 of the way. Lower the car down so the jack is no longer supporting the car. It may come loose from the weight, or you may need to roll the car a few feet, that usually does the trick. Alternatively, while the car is jacked up and the lug nuts are off (parking break on, and jack stands secure, hit the wheel on the inside hard with a rubber mallet, sometimes that will work too (be sure you are not under the car when you do this incase it slips off your jack stand).

Humming noise from driver rear wheel on 09 camry

Check wheel bearings. Properly jack up the car one side at a time with blocks set in front of and behind the front wheels with the car in Park. Do not set the parking brake as this will prevent the rear wheels from being spun while off the ground. Safety consideration--- Do not get any body parts between the wheel and finder or under the car in case it slips off the jack---- After one rear wheel is slightly off the ground begin to spin it and listen for rough / dry/ popping noises or break pad drag. See if the noise gets louder when you spin it faster or one direction versus the other. Check for loose bearing by trying to wiggle the tire side to side and top to bottom. Pay attention to tire wear. If you find nothing in the wheel itself, the tire might be the problem if the tread is worn oddly. You can change that tire's position with another wheel and see if the noise changes to the tire's new location. Repeat by checking the other side.

X TYPE REAR WHEEL REMOVAL

if all lugnuts are removed, it is corrosion between the hub and centering hole of the wheel. Make sure vehicle is properly supported and kick tire on one side-sidewall. this should dislodge it or at least ger it in a position where you can rock the tire and wheel assembly on the hub enough to work it off of the hub. If one kick does not dislofge it try again on opposite side.

Once off, clean up the mating surfaces and the centering hole of the wheel and apply some axle grease around the back side of wheel and the centering hole. Do not use too much or it may get thrown onto tire or onto the rotor surfaces.

Since one stuck, you should check them all.

2003 windstar rear brake problem.

Take the lug bolts and try putting the broad side against the drum without the tire rim. It sounds like the rear brakes are adjusted too tight. Also check the emergency brakes which may have to be adjusted looser now that the linings are new and thicker.
If you can run the lugnuts against the drum with the broadside hitting the drum you will duplicate what is happening with the tire rim. You will be able to see better and can adjust the brakes without the tire in the way.

Rear roters won't come off like front did.

If I am correct, the parking brake is part of this rotor also. The inside of the rotor is shaped like a drum brake hub, so the parking brake shoes can expand, and push against the drum shape. (Just like a Corvette)

You may want to adjust the parking brake shoes in, for easier removal.
To do this, there is an adjustment hole knockout panel, or access plug you remove.

(Adjustment Hole Knockout Panel. Fancy name for an oblong piece of metal, that has been cut into the brake backing plate, but not cut all the way through. You take a punch, and hammer, and hit the side end of this 'Knockout Panel'. When it twists, grab the end with a pair of vise grips, work it back and forth, and it will break out. You will then need to buy the rubbery access plugs to fill this hole)

With the adjustment hole open you will see a star wheel. Just like on drum brakes. Use a brake spoon. (Brake adjustment wrench) You'll have to experiment, with which way to turn this star wheel, to slack the parking brake shoes away, from the drum shape in the rotor. One side should be left handed thread, the other side is right handed thread.

Still won't budge? More penetrating oil, (WD-40 is NO GOOD for this!), and use a rubber mallet, or similar type hammer from the inside of the vehicle, hitting out.

(Jack Stands, Wheel Chocks, Eye Protection! Have someone nearby watching, in case the vehicle starts to slip off, and can grab you, or at least warn you. Thank you for letting me say this, I feel better!)
