When I go to start my car, it usually fires right up, but if I go into town, and come back to it after it's been sitting for a few minutes or more, it takes at least 5 to 7 seconds to start, but it starts almost right away when it's been sitting for hours. (in the morning, going to work, and coming home from work) I have had to replace two batteries and starter so far. One mechanic told me it is the fuel pump that has a diaphram in it, that keeps the fuel at the engine, but it has probably failed due to it's age, and the gas goes back to the tank, but that doesn't explain why the car starts up right away after sitting for hours?
When the car is hot the fuel going into the engine is evaporating,The fuel mixture is to week. This happens on quite a few cars when they are warm or hot.
When a car's engine is heat-soaked from driving it can be harder to start. your spark plugs probably need to be replaced or at least re-gapped. when spark plugs age the gap gets larger and this can make the engine harder to start under these circumstances.

sound like the ignition timing is out and needs resetting so that it fires at the right part of the 4 stroke cycle. usually about 8 degrees before top dead centre. varies for each model of engine
if it sounds like it usually does while starting, other than not kicking off, then its your injector fuse or relay. if it sounds different, then you might have slipped or broke timing belt.it will sound a whole lot different and even a cylinder might fire or backfire while starting. if its the injectors, it,ll just spin along as usual. no strange stuff except not kicking off
check out these things EGR valve- Ignition timing- Vaccum leaks damaged valve springs or sticking valve- Vaccum leak at the intake manifold try this website to see if they have your car listed its www.alladatadiy.com if not check out your local library to get your hands on a Haynes repair manual for a Lincoln Town Car i hope i have been some help to you Michigan Man.

There will be a switch in your trunk usually on the right side. It will be clearly marked saying air suspension. Make sure its flipped on. If it is then check the fuse.
