SOURCE: Check charging system

So you have a new alternator. I S IT CHARGING ? If the answer is yes , and the battery still dies, I would say there is a 12 volt drain in the electrical system. Hope this helps

SOURCE: My battery will not keep its charge. I'm assuming

When the car is off, your battery terminals should read about 12V +-.2V. After starting the car, the terminals should read 13V-14V +-.2V. This means that your alternator is working and charging your battery. If it's below 13V, then your alternator is not charging your battery and it reads above 14V, then it's overcharging and damaging your battery. If it is charging your battery properly, then you may have an electrical short somewhere that is drawing power off the battery even when the car is off. Unfortunately that will be hard to trace as you'd have to test all your wiring.

1993fod tempo lx amplight keeps coming on done installed new battery and checked altanator

The battery indicator is not turned on by the battery it is a warning that the charging system is at fault, you have a failing diode in the alternator or a defective voltage regulator or a defective alternator connector. Knowing the history of this car's charging system from 25 years as a Ford dealer technician I would replace the Alternator with a Ford OEM remanufactured and the wiring harness connector to it as both are troublesome parts. DO NOT USE CHEAP AFTER MARKET REBUILT ALTENRATORS- solder and shrink tube all connectors.

My 2000 Focus is using altenators monthly...whats going on?

Are you using quality alternator? Is this rebuilt or new alternator? Make sure the battery has a full charge, don't charge a dead battery with alternator. Check the alternator belt tension. Check wiring circuits for battery and charging system. Check for excessive battery amp draw, with everything off.

At the moment, I question the alternator quality? When finances are tight, I also buys parts from discount auto stores, which may or may not be a good idea?

Hello. My 1993 Mercury Grand Marquis died on the highway after the battery "alternator?" light coming on about 20 minutes prior. We replaced the alternator with a rebuilt and the light is STILL...

A ford needs a fully charged battery to work the alternator. You may burn out the replacement alternator by hooking it up to a dead battery. Get the battery charged and have it load tested. You may have a bad battery and it should be checked. http://www.cardone.com/english/club/select/electrical/protech/tech_bulletins/PT37-0006.pdf

F350 2004 6.0 brand new alternator not charging new batteries , battery light stays on , what could I be missing?

Just cause its a new alternator does mean it should work. I would check the charge when running cause it could just be a bad alternator.

Battery not charging warning light showing

mcdevito75 here, The replaced alternator should have a warrantee, bring it back to the shop that replaced it. If you did the work yourself and even if it's a rebuilt, you should still be able to exchange it. Some manufactureres recommend a new alternator and not rebuilt, plus if you"ve added any moe electrical items you"ll need a stromger alternator (higher amp).

I have a new alternator on a 1992 Honda Accord, but my battery keeps going dead?

The battery may not be holding charge. If you drained your battery a few times because of a bad alternator, it is possible to destroy the cells in the battery causing one or more of them to no longer hold a charge. Most batteries are manufactured to be cycled or completely drained 8 times. Other factors such as excessive load and age can decrease that number. You may also have a faulty voltage regulator that can result in overcharging and destroying the battery. Charge the battery on portable charger and have it tested. Also, It is possible that since most alternators are rebuilt they can be bad out of the box.

2000 Ranger, new rebuilt alternator, new battery -

Jump start this truck if possible and do this with a volt meter. While the engine is running connect the red terminal of the volt meter to the negative terminal of the battery. Take the black probe to the volt meter and connect it to the positive terminal of the battery. The reason why is to test the diode if its any good. If you get a reading of voltage the diode is bad and will not let the altenator charge your battery. The diode is made for DC current to run one direction. If runing both ways no charge will be directed to the battery

Altanator keeps dieing.

A fresh charged battery does not mean it is a good battery. The battery is working the alternator to death, replace it,it has a bad cell,or the amps are to low,and has a short in it.The alternator senses the battery is in bad need off charge, and puts all out until the alternator has nothing left,This is the most likely cause of this problem. Also be sure the battery cable ends are shiny clean when replacing the battery.
