2001 Ford Escape Rear Hatch won't unlock

The rear hatch won't open. I understand that I need to replace the Door Lock Accuator. How do I open the hatch when it won't unlock though to replace it? Is there a button somewhere or manual lever? There is NO key hole.

SOURCE: door ajar alarm

The doorlach pin is faulty.
On newer vehicles it is inside the door on the locking mechanism.
It is stuck in the closed position, or has become dislodged.
Refer to your mechanic for repair.

SOURCE: handle on rear hatch door broke off.how can i open hatch door until i can get a new handle?

you don't. take it into a Hyndai Dealership and have the handle repaired/replaced. The rear hatch panel/cover has to be removed (from inside the vehicle) to access the hatch latch and open the door.. from that point the handle can be replaced/repaired.

SOURCE: HHR back hatch problem

It most likely will be the fuse for the hatch, I would definately check out the fuse before trying other things. If the fuse is ok then it could be the release motor on the hatch.

Good luck..

SOURCE: Back hatch will not unlock/open

you could use some lithium grease and spray it in the general area of the latch and hope it lubes the latch enough to loosen it to open. but it will cause a mess spraying it

How do you open the back door (no manual)

Rear hatch is locked or unlocked with a key. (if equipped) • To open the rear hatch, insert the key into the lock, turn it to the unlock position and pull up the rear hatch by pressing the handle (DOOR). You can also lock/unlock the latch (but not release it) with the central door lock system. • If unlocked, the rear hatch can be opened by pressing the handle (DOOR) and pulling the hatch up. • To close the rear hatch, lower and push down the rear hatch firmly. Make sure that the rear hatch is securely latched.

Why can't rear hatch be opened?

Won't open with the key ? Do all the other doors lock an unlock ? You have to understand the electronics involved , you have a remote keyless entry module an all switches are an input to the (RKEM) , an from the voltage input it knows what door to open or unlock or lock . First you would need a wiring diagram to test the circuit an you need to pull the inside panel off the rear hatch to get at the motor to see if the power is getting to it. Can be a very time consuming job. Here check out this video ,it's not the same vehicle as yours but it will give you an idea of what's involved . 2008 2012 Ford Escape Liftgate Latch Won Open Access Diagnosis Repair

How to repair rear actuator for ford escape hatch

Bad lock actuator: (NOTE: If your hatch is locked)
First remove rear panel- pull the plastic panel at the top center, until (2)clips pop off, then pop (2) more clips at the mid-center. Stick your arm down until you reach the lock, with your fingers, feel for the squishy plastic( inside is the bar that goes up to unlock), it is attached to the lever to unlock. Pull up the lever until you can open the hatch. There are four more clips at the top sides and middle sides, and four plastic screws at the bottom which is only accessible when the hatch is opened.
The lock is only sold as an assembly at $100.

Rear hatch door in ford windstar-mechanism came apart

My back hatch would not open but it appears the lock was sticking and the return spring to the handle is broken. We used the key to unlock the back door and then door opened. Then husband sprayed WD 40 in all the lock holes. Now once we open the door we have to push the handle back down as return spring is still missing but the door opens :) . My van is a 2002 Ford Windstar.
