1996 olds 88 won't start

Car turns over but won't start. When this happens, windows, door locks and seat won't work. I know the fuel pump is grounded with the windows and that I have a bad ground, but I can't find it. I have the same exact problem. This is the second time that this has happened. The first time, I left it alone and came back out the next morning, and it started right up. I don't seem to have such good luck this time. The window's, mirrors, door locks, and seats are all non-functional, but the radio, horn, inside lights, blower, are all still functional. Did you ever find out the problem with yours? I do not know where to start.

Thanks Jason. You've helped me out more than you know. Not only do you know what your doing, but you also offer the opportunity to give advice over the phone, which helps a hell of a lot. Thanks again. I'd recommend you to any other person in need of car help.

Update:
Found this at:
http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=548537

"Stalls, no power window, seats, locks, fuel pump. I had same problemwith my 94 88. Pull back the carpet on the driver side just under thedoor trim. You will find a large wiring harness. Taped to the outsideof the harness will be a ground splice block. If it is corroded, resplice the wires and your car should start and run, and the windows, locks and seats will be back to life as well. There is another groundblock on the passenger side just under the door sill. You might want tocheck that one too, as there may be corrosion there as well. I had toresplice both on my car and everything is back to normal."

Will try it and let you know. This has been a real difficulty.

1998 Olds 88 lost electric windows, locks, seats, and wouldn't start. Found ground connection underneath carpet on drives side just like you said. Repaired that and it runs great! Thanks!

1996 buick century door locks won't work and radio goes to am station when you turn off the car

This same thing happened to me in my 1996 buick century just a few days ago. I have the same problem with the door locks and the radio resetting to AM too. I also have the problem of the seats not moving. I think it might be the curcuit breaker or a fusible link. I am not a mechanic, but I do have the repair manual and the mechanics book with the wiring diagrams. If you want me to send the wiring diagram I could do that. I hope that helps. Let me know what you find cause I got the same problem.

My 1996 Olds LSS doesn't idle properly, idling surges sometimes, the temp. gauge doesn't work and sometimes the heater doesn't work.It may stall while driving. If I get in and the power seats...

Your first problem is to find out why the intermittent no-power problem. Honestly, that sounds like a loose conmnection somewhere. check all your grounds for clean and tight conditions Also, battery connections and alternator connections. Double check your power distribution center for any loose wires or poor connections. Once you solve that problem, then you can diagnose the other problems with poor idle and temp. gauge.

1998 olds 88 wont start no power windows or seats

i don't have a solution but my car did the same thing in october 2009 and i still have not had it repaired. I am told it is something electrical because its your fuel pump is not coming on and that is why the car is not starting but it doesnt make since why the windows and power seats dont work. I have also been told the only thing that connects the 3 of them is the body control module.

Runs fine for awhile than door lock stop working seat wont move and car dies wont start back up ? than it will start back up in about 20 min might run for a while might not. changed fuel pump and that...

look under the carpet on drivers and passenger sides for the ground blocks.
turn edge of carpet next to door over close to front and there is a metal plate with a bunch og ground wires that need to be cleaned for a good connection.

'96 Delta 88, died when lowering window, one restart, dead now.

All I can suggest is to carefully check out the condition of all +12V power supply leads and ground connections, from the battery to the general power distribution bus at the fusebox.
Pay particular attention to battery terminal posts and any in line maxi power fuses/fusible links and associated connectors, terminals and connections.
Check you havent lost a ground connection between the battery, engine/transmission assy and the general body.
Also worth checking the alternator is working correctly, able to carry the normal running loads reliably. Battery terminal voltage should be approx 14 to 14.5V with engine running when headlights on, A/C blower motor running.
I assume the battery charge condition is ok when these problems occur.
Check electrical and physical condition of the actual Ignition/Accessory switch and associated steering column loom connectors.
Good Luck!
