It depends on the plug that you use. Some are Pre-Gapped.

Spark Plug Gap - AutoZone

If this is your vehicle:
1991 PLYMOUTH COLT 1.5L 1468cc 90cid L4 MFI (A) SOHC
The correct gap is 0.044" , 4 required.

You need Compression, spark and fuel for it to fire, check all the spark plug leads if you haven't replaced them with new ones, check the spark plug gap to make sure that it is right, if you haven't moved the timing it should still be ok. Not sure if it is fuel injected or not but if not check the distributor cap and coil lead too. If it has a carburettor take off the air cleaner and squirt some fuel down the throat of the carbi and try to start it, if it fires you have a fuel blockage somewhere, check that your fuel filter has not blocked up hope this helps

4. Bad coil
5. Not likely but could be just a bad wire from the switch to the coil.

First you need to know if you have voltage to the coil -- if yes- go to 6.
if no -- go to 7 ..

6. Put a piece of thick paper between the points contacts, then check for voltage at the points from the coil . If there is voltage at the points ,, check the gap with the points wiper set on the high side of the lobe on the cam in the distributor . A gap of .015-.018 is most common on that engine.
7. If no voltage then back track to the ignition switch ,, fuse box , then battery

I put a plug wire in the coil output to the distributor and a plug in the other end -- lay plug on block and crank engine .. If there is spark at the plug , your in the ball game . If the spark is orange change capacitor if blue spark good to go . you might want to clean and gap your plugs before you reinstall them .

Notice: This engine has aluminum cylinder heads. Do not remove the spark plugs from a hot engine, allow it to cool first. Removing the spark plugs from a hot engine may cause spark plug thread damage or cylinder head damage.
Gap the spark plug, using round wire type spark plug gap gage. 


Gap Adjust the spark plug gap to 1.14 mm (0.045 in).

DO NOT coat the spark plugs with anti seize compound. Over torquing could occur and damage to the cylinder head threads may result.

If your going to use Platnum plugs, DO NOT GAP them. Just check the gap and if there not the right gap, ask for new one's with the right gap.

The metal on the PLatnum plugs, are harder and my break apart in the cylinder .

the spark plugs wires are directly located on top of the engine and the spark plugs are down inside the holes in the valve cover itself. I believe there are also 2 coils on top of the engine, which hide two of the spark plug wires which are attached directly to the underside of each coil, remove the coil pull it upward carefully and you will find the spark plugs for those two in the hole underneath the coil for each one. If you decide to replace the plugs, make sure to check the spark plug gap even if they tell you they are pre-gapped as pre-gapped spark plugs are usually gapped for more than one particular car and it may be incorrectly gapped for your specific vehicle. If you decide to also replace the spark plug wires, you will have to purchase the spark plug wires for the underside of each coil seperately because most local auto parts stores only sell 2 spark plug wires in the set that go onto the non-coil attached wires and plugs, and you have to purchase the coil spark plug wires seperately. So all in all you should have 4 spark plug wires, 2 that attach directly underneath the 2 coils, then 2 regular type wires that run to the other spark plugs. If you look at the valve cover and see the wires, you will see what i am saying better. Just don't forget to ask the autoparts store the spark plug gap recommended for you car, and adjust the gap on the plugs as needed. good luck.
