Porsche starts right up cold in the morning, but when I make my first stop somewhere, and it cools down for maybe 10-15 minutes, starting will be a problem. If the engine is dead cold, it starts right up. If the engine is hot from running, it starts right up. It is when it sits for about 15 min., not long enough to actually get cold is when it is hard to start. In other words, warm starts are troublesome. This is not a pickup truck or a standard type of car. It is a vintage Porsche, air-cooled, with CIS (early fuel injection)
Hot starting problems are usually fuel related. When a hot engine is shut off, the temperature of the engine and everything on it continues to rise for awhile as the engine undergoes a period of "heat soak." This can cause fuel to boil inside the carburetor bowl, fuel lines and fuel filter. When you attempt to restart the engine, "vapor lock" obstructs the flow of fuel and the engine doesn't want to start.
This is much less of a problem on fuel injected engines because the fuel is usually under much higher pressure inside the injectors and fuel line. Even so, a fuel line routed near an exhaust manifold or a fuel rail that's exposed to a lot of heat may still suffer the same kind of problems.
Heat soak problems such as these can sometimes be cured by wrapping insulation around affected fuel lines, and/or installing an insulating spacer or heat shield under the carburetor.

SOURCE: 88 Toy, 22R Carb, hard cold start
in your carburetor there is a priming passage. look in there with the air cleaner out and pump the butterfly it should squirt gas. if it doesn't then you need to open the top part of the carb and clean the hole with a hair clip. if this is not the problem it will be the choke but I'm 70 percent that this is the problem.
