2000 grand prix fan speed

Thanks for your solution to my problem but I have had the fan resistor replaced along with the fan motor blower?, and the climate control panel the panel that has all the knobs on it. It still has not solved the fan speed it only works on the highest setting 5, and not on 1-4. any other suggestions I HAVE A 2000 PONTIAC GRAN PRI . For a while the fan motor did not work on the lowest speed and now it doesn`t work on the second speed either. Do you think it is in the switch or the resister. The rest of the speeds work fine. Thank rw6847

The lights and fan motor are connected along with the radio. Maybe there is a wire that is loose and getting a Parshall connection. A car is like lights in your house. If the lights go out, you check the breaker box, light bulbs and then wiring. The only true parts that work on the Pontiac are gm parts. The actual Delco doesn't have enough power to run the ac, as the grand prix, sport needs. With that said some auto shops have a wire tester and auto parts places do also, some will check the wiring for free it. The device will tell you if it is getting all of the power thru the wiring to run it. Good luck. Hot weather is coming.

I have been having that same exact problem with my 2002 grand prix for over a year now, and when my ac is on the lower setting the it doesnt work plus the headlights and lights on my dash go out. On Max everything works. i changed the blower resistor(about $35), still doesnt work. i changed all relays and fuses related to the ac, still doesnt work. i changed out the actual ac control switch in the dash, still doesnt work. i have changed everything but the blower motor and have asked every mechanic and auto parts retailer i come across and no one knows the answer. The best answer i got is that it is probably a wiring problem like a short somewhere.

01 grand.prix ac fan switch only works on high. has a duel temp controller when you turn fan off the only way fan comes back on is to move the temp controller levers

Hi!!
When the Blower Motor Resistor (controls blower speeds) goes bad, the blower motor works only on HIGH SPEED. REPLACE IT.
BLOWER MOTOR RESISTOR Removal & Installation
  • Disconnect negative battery cable.
  • Remove right lower instrument panel insulator panel.
  • Disconnect blower resistor connector located behind right side of dash.
  • Remove blower resistor screws and blower resistor.
To install, reverse removal procedure
Good Luck!! A HELPFUL - 4 THUMBS - rating for this solution would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for using FixYa!!

Fan on 2000 grand prix only works on 5. what do i replace

Sounds like you have a bad blower motor resistor. It is located under the passenger side of the dash near the blower motor.

Here is a tip I did on how to check them

Blower motor doesn't work

Heat fan stopped working..is it a fuse?

Hi!!
It could be the Blower Motor Fuse or Relay and they should be located in the cabin Fuse Box, if both are OK, it could be the blower motor resistor, located on the blower motor housing, it is the part where the electrical connector goes into and it's got a pigtail connector that goes to the blower motor, it is attached to the blower housing by three screws. Here are some pictures for better identification.

CONNECTOR FROM RESISTOR TO BLOWER MOTOR 1kbron_6.jpg
SIDE VIEW 1kbron_7.jpg

To test it, make sure the electrical connector has voltage when the FAN is on, if voltage is present, it means relay and fuse are OK, plug the connector into the resistor and check voltage on the pigtail connector, if voltage is present, the resistor is OK, voltage varies according to the speed selected. To check the blower motor, apply 12 volts and ground the the motor terminals, it should kick in in Hi speed, if not Replace Blower Motor.

I need to replace my blower motor resistor as my fan switch only works in 1 and 5. What is the easiest way to do this job. Thanks Trevor

It's not the blower motor that is bad, but rather the blower motor resistor. Next to the motor is the resistor and by replacing that the motor should work in all the speeds. This is a common problem on the 97-04 Grand Prix.

1997 Pontiac Grand Prix GT; Elec problem with fan

Replace the blower resistor that is mounted next to the blower motor on the passenger side of the vehicle.
This will restore correct blower operation and I suspect it is also back-feeding voltage resulting in your electrical issues.
Two screws hold the blower resistor into the heater case and it is very easy to replace.
Good luck
