What is the button on the right side of the shifter counsel for?

Hi there, in order to assist you I have a question of my own.
What do you mean it clicks in the shifter?

I've have replaced a few of Elantra's transmissions. I find it common to start with no reverse, usually shortly after it wont drive it at all.
But there still hope. A link between the shifter and the transmission could have popped out. If you have a mechanic you trust, i would have him check that.

its a bad wire on your shifter ,or maybe snaged take off your center counsel and u can look right at it

you can remove the counsel and on the shifter on the passenger side is a square metal solinoide with either a metal or plastic rod sticking out. Pull back on this rod to unlock the shifter or remove the rod and tie the shifter lock to the open position. If you remove the rod and tie the lock open the shifter will shift out of gear even if the car is off and the brake is not depressed, the car can be run like this with no problems but it is not advised.

Replace the Stop Lamp Switch

there should be a place for you to insert your key to unlock the shifter or a unlock button. it should tell you in your owner hand book where it is at to unlock the shifter.

mine did the same thing the button if you look at the shifter is probley not all the way out you need to spray the shifter in side with some lube,my key would come out if i smaked on the shifter till the button was all the way out.

I have the same car and problem..if you take apart the cup holder, and the silver plates around the shifter, you'll see bright pink parts. There is pink on the left side and the right side, its probably the right side pink part that broke. If you push that pink part towards the cup holders you can move it out of park. That piece broke and will need to be replaced.

To Take off navigation you have to remove glove box on right side, glove box housing, shifter cover, gear selector cover and plastics on the sides of air tunnel, If you have a aluminum finished covers on sides - start taking out (pulling) to side with flat screw driver from arm rest. Not big job but very delicate. Good luck!!
