My vw polo 1,4l 2008 model, has the power steering warning light on and the steering wheel itself is very hard to steer. i checked the power steering transmission oil is at a required level. i suspected it is an electrical problem because this problem followed on numerous electrical faults which included speedometer reading failure and the hand break warning lights switching on and off. i just wanna be sure the problem is not electrical before i purchase a power steering pump.

Eventhough the level is right, the fluid might need replacing (every 3~5 years and 50.000-100.000 miles).
You can read how to recognize bad/old fluid here: http://www.hondaclub.com/forum/articles/1492-power-steering-fluid-lifeline-your-steering-system.html

If its the electronic unit, check the main fuses near the battery, also check the wiring connectors at the powersteering pump for loose or corroded plugs. If alls ok,you will need a diagnostic machine to read out what trouble codes are in the units memory.good luck.
