Codes P0171, and P0174 bLean on a 98 Navigator. Any ideas?

I have 2 codes that show up on my 98 lincoln navigator 5.4 L, , P0171, and P0174 Lean. Any Thoughts on what these could be, and any chance it could be the EGR stuck closed?

Mass air flow sensor is not the problem, I had the exact same problem and have done much research on this. Check the PVC rubber hoses, especially the elbows for cracks. You probably noticed your gas mileage has been horrible too. Hope this helps

O171 MAF (Mass Airflow Sensor) Just try cleaning this part it usually solves that problem without having to buy new part.

0174 Both are mass air flow sensors. The other problem can be a vacuum leak Check PCV valave and all vacuum lines. Also make sure fuel filter and fuel pump are working correctly. You can clean the MAF with some brake cleaner make sure it is dry before you install it back

The egr would have to be stuck open to set lean codes. Check the pcv hose assy carefully much more likely

check for vacuum leaks or a faulty mass air flow sensor. all the codes have to do with engine too lean(too much air).

Ford windstar check engine light comes on after stopping when starting to get moving again shows p0171 & p0174 codes why??

P0171 indicates a lean condition. The most common cause of this is a defective mass air flow sensor. Also check if any vacuum leaks. P0174 OBD-II Trouble Code

Technical Description

System Too Lean (Bank 2)

What does that mean?

Basically this means that an oxygen sensor in bank 2 detected a lean condition (too much oxygen in the exhaust.

Note: This DTC is very similar to P0171, and in fact your vehicle may show both codes at the same time.

Thanks.

I got the codes from auto zone 4 codes came up p1151,p0171,p0174,p1131 all of the codes listed several possibilties and the MAF was listed on them all does the mass air flow censor cause this

it could but most likely not check for a vacuum leak check the hoses to the throttlebody the rubber fittings have a tendancy to get soft and collapse
