EPC light should have nothing to do with the shift interlock,(EPC is traction control) should be a small cap or plug on the console, near the shifter that has the interlock disengage button, usually done with a key, check shift interlock in the owners manual.
check battery volts should be 12.6 volts.if not battery dead.have battery charged and test if battery can be charged alternator faulty.if battery dead cant be charged replace battery.and clean battery cables if EPC warning light still flash have vechicle code scan for faulty accelerator control system or mass air flow sensor.to get vechicle started after replacing battery just turn ignition switch to the on position for 30 seconds then turn off ignition switch then start engine.
When was the last time you changed your Air filter( A dirty filter can put MAF sensor out of range). How about the fuel filter (Fuel starvation). These filters should be changed every 30,000 miles . It is normal for all of the dash lights to come on if the engine stops running. Is the Jetta a Diesel or Gas. Perform The OBDII scan again to see if current faults are present. Do the cheapest fixes first. Also check oil often. The low oil sensor will trigger engine shut down if more than 1 quart low
EPC refers to the drive by wire system. This system, generally speaking, encompasses the throttle pedal and its position sensors (it needs to know where your gassin' foot is) and the throttle body.
Most likely, the EPC light and its associated faults for this scenario are a symptom, not the problem. Meaning the actual root cause is causing the no-start/no crank issue AND fault codes related to the EPC system.
And the most likely root cause is an ignition switch, NOT the engine speed sensor.
With a bad engine speed sensor, the car will still crank all damn day (or until the battery dies) but the car won't start.
If you get a no-crank issue, and then it eventually starts either with or without an EPC light, again, the most likely problem is the ignition switch. Not the starter, not the battery (though the battery proper and the cable connections must be perfection itself to rule them out.) You can get these issues with a visually perfect but still faulty battery connection.
Your EPC stands for "Electronic Power Control" and without it (bypassing it, as you stated), you will not be going anywhere in your car. The car MUST have the EPC on/enabled to run, as I have been told. The VW Passat does not have a throttle cable... it is controlled electronically. The EPC light means something is wrong in the drive-by-wire path, the
"gas pedal" potentiometers or the electric motor-controlled throttle
body, etc. You will need to take it to a mechanic/repair shop that is knowledgable in foreign automobiles (especially VW's) and has the appropriate tools and equipment to read any "codes" being kicked out by the computer.
I have a 2001 New Passat with the EPC light coming on randomly and it will idle high but next time I start the car it goes away. I think you will have to take it in to the dealer.
EPC= electronic pedal control it is a sensor and is located in front of the brake pedal . Depress brake with one hand ,the sensor with the other and release fast. this should disengauge the EPC lock listen for a thunk made by the EPC lock disengaging.
Go to auto zone. They will use a code reader to help you find exact component or components having errors. If its not the EPC.
it sounds like your mass air sensor or the throttle control sensor may be bad. Your gas and air may not be mixing properly thus causing your car to sputter, hesitate, and idle rough. It could be some other thinks like a bad plug or wire etc. Good Luck hope this helps. Please rate me if this helps thank you.
if the light dot not comes on epc
The car will start on the first krank then shut off. Try to start it again and it won't.
Thanks.
