I was driving home last night and I noticed that my battery and brake light started flashing. Then continued to stay on. Before the dash lights came on, I was driving for at least 30mins because I was stuck in traffic. I can remember my car just changed in smell. This confuses me because it smelt like washer fluid. I had my heat on coming from the engine.
Replace the brake switch on the brake pidal I know your battery is not drain once you replace the brake switch because the brake light iswitch non ignition

it could be the spark plugs, at least that is what it was for mine, if you have over 50k miles without a spark plug change i highly suggest one, also a oil /transmission change would be great for your car too if you haven't done those reciently. I would also suggest using a higher grade gas, sometimes this fixes the trick too.

why does my evo 8 cut out after hard acceleration
if left on idle it is ok but after `few mins starts to almost die then picks up to 1500rpm and then back to normal

this issue sounds like a grounding issue, teh main clue being everything gets dimmer. sometimes an additional ground is a faster repair than finding and resolving under dash issues.
This issue will likely NOT be battery or alternator.

Diagnosis must begin with scanning your Engine Control Module to find out why it has turned the light on. My check engine light has been on for over a yr and a half now i have done EVERYTHING possible to fix this and spent tons of money on replacing parts that the diagnostic machine told me still nothing has worked! any other suggestions on what i should try next??
