1. Locate the programming connector located in the LH trunk. Trim may have to be pulled back to access programming connector. ( Connector has black/white wires leading up to it and it is not connected to anything.)
2. Jump programming connector terminals. Leave terminals jumped unitl step 6.
3. System should now lock and unlock doors to indicate programming mode has been entered.
4. Press any button on keyless remote once. System should now lock and unlock doors, indicating successful programming of keyless remote.
5. Repeat step 4 for additional remote or other existing keyless remote. NOTE: A maximum of only two Keyless Remotes can be programmed.
   
6. Remove programming connector jumper wire to exit programming mode.
7. Test remote(s).

maybe fob is damaged, and wont open with key as it may be worn , do you have a spare key to try.

does your unlock button work in car? If it does, do you have another keyless entry key fob? If so does it work? If you just replaced the battery you can try removing battery and cleaning contacts within remote. I know some of the nissan altimas had the same issue and the only solution was a new key fob. If you go to a place that sells all kinds of battery they will usually change it for you. But a smaal flat head screw driver also works

unlock the door then press the lock button on remote and hold down for 20/30 secs.manual does say hold button.....

could be, try installing a new battery on the spare remote and retry,if it still doesnt work, then reprograming will be needed, try the battery first and let me know what happens.
