Lack of power when accelerating

I have a 2006 GMC Sierra Crew Cab with the smaller V8 engine and 4 speed automatic transmission. 2 days ago i was driving and everything was fine then all of a sudden when i stepped on the gas there was no power, i would floor it and would barely move. I stopped the truck and check under the hood, wires & fluids and everything was fine. Started the truck and took off and it ran great. The next morning, it acted the same way with no power. I put the truck in neutral and it reved up just fine, put it in gear and no power and the check engine light came on. At noon i drove the truck and it ran great and the check engine light was off. The truck ran great for the rest of the day. That night I drove about 30 miles just fine, then on my way home, it acted up the same with no power. I parked the truck for the night and this morning, it ran great again. What could cause my truck to act this way?

You really should have a code check done. There are numerous items that can give you similar symptoms. Two places to look are the fuel filter (usually overlooked till they gum up, and the throttle position sensor (but test it first with an ohmeter. You will need a manual (vehicle specific ones are available at most larger parts stores and most of those stores also do code testing free)

New spark plugs, new plug wires, new fuel filter, flush and refill radiator and new tranny fluid and filter, have tires rotated, chassis lubed, and have power steering fluid checked to see if it needs to be flushed and refilled.

SOURCE: where is the cabin filter on a sierra 2004 gmc sle

The 04 SIERRA is behind a panel with 4 screws under the glove box...Remove the screws and cover and slide it out. There is actually 2 in there and it is easy once the cover is off.

Usually there are extremely detailed instructions that come with the new filter when you open the box...Follow these instructions it shouldn't be too hard.

SOURCE: Is the fuel filter for the 2004 GMC Sierra 1500

You may be lucky and the fuel filter is still on the inside frame rail under the drivers door. 2004 was the change off year and 2005 was defiantly the no serviceable fuel filter.
You can go to the dealer with your vin number and they can look up in there system if you have the external fuel filter, or you can just look for it on the inside of your frame rail.
Thank you for using fixya and be safe.

2004 sierra 1500 crew cab won't go into park unless truck is slightly moving

Inside your automatic transmission is a cawl that engages a notched ring. If your transmission linkage has become bent for some reason, or the transmission has been moved (an accident, a damaged mount, etc.) then it might take some extra persuasion to get into park. Internal damage to the transmission is also plausible if the trans was abused in some way. That could include putting stress on the park mechanism, even as little as parking on a steep hill and relying on the transmission cawl instead of the parking brake. The vehicle needs to be put up on a lift to check for obvious linkage problems--otherwise it gets more serious.
