2002 chevy express fuel pump/crank sensor?? not starting

I have a 2002 chevy express van......the fuel pump has gone out in it once,Im going to change it again, but i read something about a crank sensor,im not sure were that is and how to check it. Also.........do I have to drain the tank to change the pump??    thanks, craig daly Pleaswas having trouble cranking over 2002 express 1500 cargo van 4.3l v-6. acted like a fuel filter problem or clogged injectors so upgeaded fuel, added injector cleaner and then changed fuel filter. Ran ok for a couple of days then was not started for about 3 days. Went to start and it was back to cranking but not started....starter was cutting out every once in awhile while cranking but still not starting. Replaced the fuel pump and starter relay...no change...no start. Saw online that new crank sensor fixed the problem for others....i changed the sensor...cranked it for about 15 seconds...still no start...then while cranking the starter stopped and it was as if the battery went dead....the engine panel lights just barely light up...flicker...and nothing happens when i turn the key...but the door chime still sounds but i dont hear the fuel pump priming....how bad did i screw things up?

I had a similar problem and called the dealer during lunch hour. i talked to a mechanic, the distributor in these vehicles is plastic, and is prone to cracking.not just the cap but the body also, I have been taking the cap off and wiping the moisture out of the cap. or replacing the cap but the problem is I need a new distributor. just a cheep way to get rolling is cleaning the inside of the cap, especially when it is very damp or the outside temp changes alot during the day. good luck.

Chk. for a burnt fuseable link around the battery and starter. Also chk. for good current out of starter switch( park neutral switch) going to small inside post on starter when key is in start position. On the fuel problem, before you chg. the pump again did you try running 12-V directly to it to see if it will run( i'am gessing it dosent) and yes the gas has to come out as much as possible 8# a gal. adds up, best to have some help and a good floor jack. As far as crank sensor most are located in front of starter on engine block. I don't know of any way of checking it other than replacing it.

I have a 2002 Chevy @500 Express Van that will not start. This problem started when it was cold weather and van wasn't driven as much as in spring and summer. Then after not cranking for a week or so, it just cranked. Drove for awhile with no problems, then once again van was parked for a couple of days and then it wouldn't start again. Replaced battery, getting fire to battery- tires to turn over but will not crank? What do you think is the problem?

Start with fuel system. Listen for fuel pump humm at fuel tank No humm check wiring to pump for power. Then check for spark at plugs and wires. Remove wire from coil and hold near engine and see arch when you crank. No arch. Replace ignition Modular inside distributor cap or cap or rotor
