You mentioned "alternator warning light" if that alt, battery light does not come on when the key is turned to the "on, acc." position the light bulb is bad or the traces leading to that light bulb on the back of the instrument cluster has a break in it. I know this sounds crazy but if that light bulb does not light it does not complete the circuit for the alt to charge!

That is If the case 580sk is like the case 580sm, 580l, or 570lxt.

You should first test your Alt to see if it is good. Jump 12v to terminal D on the Alt with engine running. (may be a different terminal on other Alt) If you voltage gauge shows it charging , Alt light goes out & tach starts working the Alt is good. Remove the jumper wire.
If the bulb is good in your control panel for the Alt light and the numbers on the bulb are 168 check to see if you have 12v on both sides of the bulb with it in the socket & engine running.
If there is not 12v on both sides, here is how I just fixed my charging issue yesterday.
I replaced the (168 bulb, this is the bulb that is call for in the manual) with a 194 bulb.
My tach, voltage gauge all are now working. ALT bulb goes out when engine it running. Alt light is a bit dim but it does work.
This was most likely a engineering problem from factory by putting a wrong amperage bulb in the circuit for the Alt light because I have read some forums about this where some say this was a issue with the 580k from the very start.

Case 580 super l backhoe alternator won't charge although alternator repair shop said it is ok

not charging can be the regulator not working, broken charge circuit wires
take it to an accredited auto electrical shop and have the out put voltage tested for dc voltage , not ac voltage
may have blown a diode in the rectifier on installation

The battery is not charging and is bringing up codes P0621 and P0622 indicating a generator field circuit problem. Is this fixable? What do I do?

The alternator is fielded/grounded by the PCM. You need wiring schematics. Check continuity between the alternator and PCM for the field wire. If it is good, the PCM has lost the ground for the alternator(if not, fix or run a new wire). You can fix it two ways. First replace the PCM and have it programmed to the car. This cost money and it will turn the battery light off. Second, is to cut the field wire close( give yourself room to work) to the alternator, add wire to it and ground it to the engine(making sure the engine has a ground strap to the body). This may or may not turn the battery light off. But it will charge the battery.

Toyota Tacoma fuel problem

Check the following:
- Listen to the fuel pump noise under the fuel tank.
- Starter signal.
- EFI relay, under the hood fuse and relay box.
- Fuel pump operation and pressure.
- Regulating valve.
- Circuit Opening Relay (COR) under the dash.
- Check for open in harness and connector between circuit opening relay and fuel pump, and fuel pump and body ground

Alternator F terminal circuit. Check your plug-in in the Alternator case. The field wire is not connecting. You could have a bad supply wire from the Ignition switch or a Relay.

Check with Autozone.com and register your vehicle for free wiring diagrams and fusebox layouts. Some GM vehicles use Relays or fuses in the charging circuit.

It is likely your charge wire or field circuit is shorted. If you mean you want to install an external regulator, I cannot recommend that, as it will likely cause a fault to disconnect the alternator from the computer. Trace all of the alternator wires, big and small; and I believe you will find a short. If you have an ohmmeter, use it to make sure the field power wire is isolated from chassis ground.

03 intrepid not charging new alt pcm battery all connections good .power up field wire charges ok?

A good multi meter would do you some justice it sounds like , from new components and statement sounds like a missing ground , if the motor has been swapped out check all the fram to ground connections as well as any moter mount ground bridges , a charging system is rather simple (make a complete circuit) , wire harnesses make this a chore to trace down but provides a factory working condition ,. To just trouble shoot charging is done with the field wire to batt pos , and earth (ground) to alternator case . good luck!

The alternator on my girlfriends 91 Chrysler Lebaron isnt producing enough power to recharge or keep my battery charged. its giving me the codes DTC41, DTC 35, AND DTC 31, now i know that one of those...

There are 2 types of alternators for this vehicle .code 41 is a field circuit code for the alternator The SBEC controlls the charging rate of the alternator . It could be wiring connections or the SBEC ( computer) to be the problem .You may have to back probe some terminals to find the problem ,but first check all of the engine grounds including the negative battery cables. The fault code for the field circuit is most likely generated because of an open circuit . The SBEC (computer) supplies the ground to energize the field circuit ..

Hope this helps

I have a 2000 Dodge grand caravan, and the battery won't charge while the car is running, it just keeps using the battery until its dead. We have replaced the computer, and had the alternator and battery...

Hello allyssiandra.
The green wire leading to the alternator is grounded by the computer to complete the field circuit.
The dark green/orange wire is power supply to the field circuit fed by the auto shutdown relay.
The large output wire out of the stator in the alternator should have battery voltage on it at all times. Test to verify this power at the alternator terminal. There is a fusible link in this feed wire that could have went open circuit.
To test the system manually ground the green wire with the engine running. This is called a full field test. This will put the alternator in full output. If it doesn't, apply positive battery power to the dark green/orange wire with the engine running. This bypasses the auto shut down relay.
Hook up wires at the alternator before starting the engine for safety sake.
Do this much and report back here to me and I will help with the next step in repair.

My 96 chevy Tahoe wont hold a charge and dies after about an hour. I replaced the alternator and even got a new battery. So where do I need to start looking next

Check the big red wire on the back of the alternator for power. The wire likes to get corroded in half inside the casing but is still held together BY the casing. you can even take a jumper cable from the positive side of the battery to the big/single wire on the back of the alternator. Now , you could have a bad ground also. take a voltmeter or test light and with the ground of the tester on the ground of the battery check for power on the case of the alternator. Another thing , does the alternator or charge light on the dash light up woth the key off? the alternator knows to "start-up" or "field-up" by the power it recieves through the bulb before the engine is started. once the engine starts the small brown wire on the alternator goes hot and shuts the light on the dash off cause it now has power on both legs of it. if the bulb blows then the alternator won't field-up. good luck.
