Clean the sensor wire in the mass air flow sensor. Remove the tamper proof screws to remove the sensor holder and clean off the wire with carb spray or brake cleaner. Do not touch the wire with hands or rags.

Either the cruise control is going out or the torque converter clutch circuit is going out on the trannys overdrive. Do you have check engine light codes? My 97 Jeep Grand Cherokee was doing the same thing. I changed the TPS ( Throttle Position Sensor) Now it is great goes into overdrive fine. It is really easy to change.
