1986 Volvo 240 starts but will die when I increase the RPMs

Starts up fine every time. Always idles fine. But when I put it in gear or increase the RPMs the engine will die. I've replaced both fuel pumps, the fuel filter, pump strainer (for the in tank pump), and the pump relay switch. If I let the car sit a while it will work for a while (sometimes it will only go 25 feet, other times it has gone up to 150 miles) but suddenly it will start happening again.

Exhaust seems fine. I've been talking to some friends... would a messed up air filter or censor do it?

The exhaust is all clear. A friend told me it might be the air filter or air mass censor. Would that do it?

My 88 240 has a bad connection where the fuel pump relay plugs in , when the relay gets jostled the car dies. If I jam all the wires back into the plastic fitting it runs fine for a while.

Sounds silly but make sure there isn't a partial blockage in exaust system or a smashed pipe.

I changed the 02 Sensors on my 03 Mitsubishi Galant do I need to reset anything on my car? It turns on fine but idles low when put in gear and shuts off.

Its a hot start issue.

Also it can be weak battery or starter.

1996 mercedes c280 dies when put in drive

Engine stalls or RPM fluctuates at idle up and down or dies near idle.

This problem is commonly caused by a dirty automatic idle speed control valve and throttle valve but always run a OBD2 fault code as well as the cleaning procedure. Buy a can of throttle valve cleaner (do not use carburetor spray cleaner!) from NAPA or Carquest (made by CRC chemicals) and spray it into the air intake while the engine is running, use up about 1/2 the can, engine will try to stall hold the speed up, shut it down and let it soak for 30 minutes, restart and blow out the remaining fluid, shut it down and disconnect the negative battery cable for 5 Min's to reset the base idle control

Sounds like a fuel mixture/vacuum problem. Vacuum advance line on the distributor could be loose/leaking/collapsed.

Car idles rough, rpms start at normal, then go down, and repeat

you could have a vacuum leak or the map sensor is going out.
