I think you are the victim of an otherwise good idea; theft protection that has disabled the electrical system.

What happens when you turn the key? Do the door locks work? Do the headlights work? Once I get that info I can help point you in the right direction

PERHAPS THIS MODEL HAS AN ADD'L FUSE BOX UNDER REAR SEAT. WE DONT HAVE THAT MODEL IN USA

Check Mercedes forums how to synchronize windows etc after battery replacement. Common for MB cars but different procedures on different models.

seems to be faulty centerlocking pump which is under the right rear seat, remove rear seat cushion then have look at right there is center locking pump, it has coverd by sponge box, open sponge box and remove wiring socket from pump and install fuse then have a look, if fuse not blow now faulty pump, replace pump, if fuse still blowing could be wiring short circuit from some where, need to be diagnose, is this information helped you, i am from New Zealand too. have a good labour week end,

i have same problem on 1997 s420, don't know why it is happening. but you can replace cigar lighter fuse then replace seat/mirrors/steering wheel fuse and all is well. thnx

just insert the key to the ignition swich and leave it for one minute, it will work for sure.
